With Mauck you not only got consistency but also leadership. We would have beat AU and UG would have been closer. We lost the UG game early because of turnovers and lack of consistency at the QB position. 9-1 at the worst, going to SECCG and sugar bowl.
I don't agree with that. Our kick coverage was pretty bad yesterday but overall this year, our special teams have been pretty good. The kicking game has been very incoonsistent but the punter has come around and last night showed we can kick the 50 yard FG.
yeah.. scary though.. mauck, hill, and clayton back this year.. domination wouldnt be strong enough a word...
Had Matt Mauck, Michael Clayton, and Marquis Hill all returned, we would have beaten Auburn by two touchdowns. We would NOT have beaten Georgia. It would have been much closer, but we would not have pulled it out; I'm just disappointed for the 'Dawgs that the LSU game was the ONLY game they got up for and wanted badly all season, because they've been sleepwalking through the rest of the year. So, we'd be looking at 10-1, SEC West Champs, possible SEC Championship, instead of 9-2 or 8-3. But I'm not complaining. What happened, happened, and that's just the way it is. We will be loaded next year; we just need to get better at quarterback.
If we had only Mauck, we beat Aub., but still lose to Ga. if we had Mauck, Hill, and Clayton back, I think we even beat Ga. and are undefeated at this point in the season.
Yes and we missed 2 other FGs, one from real close range. And there is no way you can say that our punt or kick return teams have been worth crap this year. Although I do concede that it has mostly been due to Sky's injury, but this team should have had sufficient backup to counter that.
I've never understood why (for the most part) big time programs don't offer scholarships to kickers. I know that their only allowed to give out so many and that factors into it, but so often, a game come down to a kick, so why not? It's only one. I hate to do it, but I have to agree with Islstl on this one. Although, I thought the return game excelled last night even though some of them were called back. Those "block in the back" call were BS. In watching the replay of the game, I see how the could be construed as such, but officials in this league should be able tell the difference
