I got that feeling last night, I'm waiting in front of the PMAC for some friends to show up so we can go in the game when this family walks by. I hear this 12-13 year old kid read the letters on the front of the building "Pete Maravich Assembly Center". He then looks at his dad and asks "Who's Pete Maravich?".
I remember Paul Dietzel coaching LSU. I remember the first time I saw LSU use three platoon football. Was it the Gold team, Chinese Bandits and the White team? I remember J.B. "Ears" Whitworth at Alabama. That's old.
I remember all except "Ears" Whitworth. I saw Terry Bradshaw with the Steelers and Joe Namath with the Jets, in Tulane Stadium. Namath was pre-season game, Bradshaw was young, it was a Monday night game, and he ran the bootleg several times and punished the Saints DB's. Bradshaw must have been about 6' 4" and 240, big for a QB in those days, and he was faster than you would have thought for his size.
Nope, one of them told me that their daddy was older than me. Little do they know is my son went to school with their daddy.
CJ was a fine guard at LSU but . . he'll never be in the Hall of Fame and is not one of the top-50 All time NBA players. Plus he left LSU after only 2 years and his jersey will never be retired at LSU. As good as he was, he's second-tier at LSU. Maravich, Pettit and O'Neal are giants of the game.
"Ears" Whitworth was the coach Bama fired to hire Coach Bryant. msully would have called him a good coach also.
