We should never punt. Not on 4th and 8 from midfield, or 4th and 50 at our own 1. It's a sign of weakness. I'm joking.
Seriously ... If you’re average gain per play is 10.48 yards, round it off to ten and take a reduction %, call it the 25% Murphy Law Rule, and go for it on 4th and seven ANYWHERE on the field ... IT HAS THE IMMEDIATE EFFECT OF D~E~M~O~R~I~A~L~I~S~A~T~I~O~N
But that's a misleading stat from this particular game; here's why: LSU spent most of the game playing in either 1st and 10 or 2nd and short, when the entire playbook is open to you. Much easier to execute in those circumstances. A more important stat in the given situation is that LSU was just 1 of 4 on 3rd down. Here's how that broke down: 3rd and 7, Burrow chased out of the pocket, ran for 3 yards, 4th down 3rd and 2, complete pass, but for only 1 yard, 4th down 3rd and 8, 14 yard completion, 1st down 3rd and 8, completion for 5 yards, 4th down Florida D had much more success when they dictated us into more obvious play calls, which is where we would have been on 4th and 8.
I've noticed the resurrection of the meerkat offense too. Though it appears more to bleed play clock than actually call in a play.
Excellent job with the counterpoint. Pay close attention folks this is how you present a counter argument and have a great discussion. My counter-argument to that is the sample size may be a bit dubious. If we were, say, 2 of 11 on 3rd down then I think your argument would stand on firmer ground. But it's definitely something to consider.
Ok Lester ... Sit on the sideline lift your leg and let er Rip We’re .667 on the year on 4th Down (2/3) It’s a 4th and 1 up or up to a 4th and 7, and I got the best OCs in America and the best QB Tell this champion you’re not going for it ...
I personally believe that at this time, THAT WOULD BE JOE BURROW’S CALL And nothing that any of us think or would or would not do makes a f-ing difference. They respect this kid and his coaching sense on the field. Period
