i admit that my arguement is far weaker knowing UGA beat Arkansas... I thought that game went the other way. :)

Yeah, the other day, I also looked that up, knowing we'd be seeing him soon. He's not doing too bad (he's like Vandy's third scoring option and helping them on the boards), but ultimately, this is probably a situation where it worked out best for both parties. Neltner gets more PT on a team that appreciates "soft" big men who go out to shoot the three (until of course, some of our '07 class get here), and he made room for T-Train who helped us get to the final four.

Of course, now, it would be great to have another live 6'9" body, and he'd probably be playing more now ahead of Rolle and splitting time with Lazare, but he'd be a senior right now splitting time on a team that has more depth overall. In the end, he was the one that chose to leave.

Also, I don't know if I miss his shooting all too much... sure he hit a 3 ptr occassionally, but I still feel with Mitchell and Martin, we've got some 3 point shooters (albeit inconsistent). I personally feel we need to shoot less threes (we were like 5 of 17 last night, which dragged our overall % down) and get a few more scores down low or driving to the basket. Lazare sort of came alive last night and Rolle hit his only shot, so perhaps there's a little glimmer of hope there.

In any case, the point is a win is a win, and I'll take another SEC Championship or SEC West title winning ugly. I think the Tigers will get it right gradually. Right now, it's establishing an offense that settles in on a rotation and the right shots and scoring options. Davis being stifled and Garrett having another poor shooting night (although I'll commend him on his d and assist to turnover ratio) made us look uglier than we are...

I don't think Neltner would average 12 a game at LSU. LSU has more talent than Vandy so he would average more at Vandy, in my opinion.

    Crying over Spilled Milk...

So, I hadn't realized the SEC hoops landscape until I woke up and realized that three SEC favored teams lost... It's survival of the fittest I tell you.

But, seeing the Vandy beat down on 'Bama made me also think to another couple of things that hoops nuts can chew on...

First, on our offense being anemic, I'd just say let Vandy's Kevin Stallings say it all...

"I thought we played pretty well," Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings said. "Everything looks better when the ball goes in the basket." Vandy is one hot 3 point shooting team and of course... LSU is a defensive team. So, as they say, you live by the three ... you die by the three...

Second, this Ross thread overshadows the fact that LA product Shan Foster, lit 'Bama up for 27. Which brings me to my top LA "crying over spilled milk" recruiting list. This may be more appropo on the recruiting board, but I really studied recently LA hoops recruits defectors on ESPN the other day to see how they were doing. Based upon a cool little stat that ESPN tracks "PPS" which amounts essentially to points per shot (and a loose indicator of offensive efficiency), my view is that these recruits below lost by Brady and Butch over the recent years have hurt the most (in this order):

    1. DJ Augustin - Texas
    2. Jarius Jackson - Texas Tech
    3. Martin Zeno - Texas Tech
    4. Demond Carter - Baylor
    5. Shan Foster - Vanderbilt
    6. Oliver Lafayette - Houston

All guards and in my mind point guards are weighted higher at 1, 2 and 4 (and next year, I'll be tracking LaDarius Dunn's name-Baylor). Just food for thought... Brady and Butch I'm sure know they need to stop this from happening (note, however, that in our teams defense, Temple, Tas' and Martin all have PPS's ranging from 1.1 to 1.3 which is comparable to some of the above--DJ Augustin is at a crazy 1.6 PPS for Texas). Ah... what could have been... :sob: :bncry:

and vandy killed bama (ok, it was at that weird arena). vandy has 3 top 25 w's.

sec will get 7 in ncaa, even 9 not impossible (if the selection committee could stomach it). everyone except uf and maybe uk will have 5 sec losses.

DJ Augustin is awesome for Texas. He would have been a great fit at LSU. Damn Katrina.

As far as Rolle showing a glimmer of hope by making his only shot, the shot in question was an alley oop so not much glimmer from that stat.

    Re: Crying over Spilled Milk...

While this is true, I'll point out that Davis and Lazare are both above 1.4 pps, and for many of the points I made above, I'm less concerned about that loss as I am about what could have been with some of these guards that could have really helped the balance of our team. To his credit though, Ross is a productive player and has proven this on Vandy's team...
