I purchased Lionel Turner’s 2001 season helmet at the gift shop in the Stadium two years ago. I was out of town so I sent the wife to pick one up. Of course all the superstars helmets were already gone, so I felt like I settled for a possible up and comer. Lionel’s name and number is affixed to the inside and it’s the series with the Coach Mac sticker on the back. Ever since I have really followed Lionel, not that it’s been hard, he’s done really well. He really made me proud at the Sugar Bowl and there were numerous times during the season, especially at away games that I would watch on TV that I would be hollering his name “GO Lionel Great play Baby”. I recommend people get those helmets they are a great piece of memorabilia and you never know what future star you might get. What players do others have? As far as Lionel, he has a fan for life.
One of my good friends has Michael Clayton's helmet from last year (2002). He got it signed by Clayton on one side, and Saban on the other. It's pretty damn cool. Of course it comes out for every game and is the "centerpiece" of our tailgating setup. He paid a bunch for it. Oh, and either Clayton has a small head or I have a big one, cause I can't get the helmet on.
I really want one, but I'm a poor college student so its hard to constitute spending that much money on a football helmet when I'm starving.
I met Lionel Turner's parents the night before the game at the Percy Sledge concert in front of the casino. You've never seen a pair of prouder parents. Can't say that I blame them.
You could probably buy a gold helmet at a sporting goods store and have somebody fix it up to look like an LSU helmet. It wouldn't be a real players helmet but it would still look good.
I received one of those helmets for Christmas. Its number 89. I cant remember who #89 was. Does anyone remember a 89 since 2001?
DallasLSU, they sell the past season's helmets at the stadium gift shop every summer, in late July or August. They have been selling for $175 the past few seasons; who knows what they'll ask for them this year. You have to be watching for them because they go fast. I got Devery Henderson's helmet from the 2002 season, and I can't prove it but I tell everybody it's the Bluegrass Miracle helmet!
