That's prolly a safe bet. Now I doubt it would be Tulane over one of the UL schools. ASU definitely has some strength, which will offset the N Texas and TBD patsies for the naysaying talking heads. As much as a Mid-Major (soon to be Big East power) Louisville is attractive, those teams are scary because they can catch you sleeping.
Every computer poll takes SOS into consideration. That's why Auburn will finish 3rd in most computer polls this season, due to a very weak OOC schedule. So believe me when I say the schedule you choose could make ALL the difference in the world. Auburn will have to live with this fact for quite a long time.
It could and should be a "patsy", IMO. Especially if LSU wins its bowl game, they should be ranked in the top two going into next season (anyone care to guess who'll be #1? If Leinhart stays---as he keeps saying he will---it's a lock.) Therefore, all they have to do is win to stay in the running for the Rose Bowl (no way an SEC team falls from the top two if they're undefeated and ranked there all season). It's going to be very hard to get a "name" team since all teams are deep into their conference schedule come 11/5 and are already committed to play on that date (Neb. has Kansas, I think). How about asking UHouston to bump up their 2006 game (or whenever they play LSU again) with LSU? They're the ones that caused the Arky St. moving up from 2005 to 2004 problem in the first place.
Let's not knock North Texas too much. They have really improved over the last 4-5 years. (I feel like I have to stick up for them a little--my husband's an alum). But a couple of things to consider about them: 1. They are a bowl team again this year. 2. They've had the nation's leading rusher two years in a row, with two different guys. 3. If they were like Boise St. or TCU and didn't play the powers of college FB OOC, they could be a "fly in the ointment" BCS team, too. They win all of their conference games. They won't hurt our SOS.
It's going to take one hell of a special team to go undefeated next year. Sure, the schedule is to our favor but the games are far from easy. At Ole Miss is always tough. Florida, even if at home, will be very tough if they get a good coach. At Alabama will be very difficult - top 5 defense and look for major improvements on offense. Arizona St is also a pretty good team and will be top 20 next year I think. Yes, LSU will be loaded with talent and hopefully we will still have one of the best college coaches in the game, but all I'm saying is that going undefeated isn't as easy as ya'll make it seem.
a team that LSU should always try to schedule.. Notre Dame.. guarunteed nationally televised, always high profile.. definately winnable of late...
LSU is scheduled to play ND around 07, 08, or 09 for a home and home. ND is purposely weakening their schedule. Their AD back in September said that they are only going to have 8 tough games a year for a 4-4 home against their traditional opponents and rivals, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Navy, Pitt. USC, Boston College, Stanford, and then schedule 3 patsies for home games.
