I recommend joining the Air Force Reserve. You get the same training and if you hate it at the end of your training (3 months to more than a year) you would only have to go one weekend a month for six years. If you enjoy it, you can sign on with the regular Air Force at that point. Give yourself options.

Get a marketable MOS not a wartime MOS. The best are jobs like X Ray Tech, diesel mechanic, helicopter mechanic, et cetera. Choose an Air Force job that you can make good money doing after the Air Force. You can always fall back on the job even if you want to do something else later on.

I was in the Army National Guard for nine years. Talk to as many people who have served recently or are serving before you sign so that you can get the best deal for yourself. Once you sign, you no longer have control so get the best deal you can by being informed. Don't just sign something to make the recruiter happy.

I enjoyed the military. They taught me French and interrogation, payed for my tuition at LSU, and gave me all kinds of other money like pay, GI Bill, and Pell Grant. Like it was written in an earlier post, it is what you make of it. Consider a way of becoming an officer because you will make at least twice as much money and have more freedom. When you join the military, you don't have your freedom anymore. That is one of the sacrifices that you are making to protect the rest of us.

I would do it again. Just be smart and informed before you sign. Don't have regrets because you find out what you could have done after you talk to people at basic. It is too late at that point.

    Thank you for serving.
