Now you are getting a sense of the frustration LSU fans dealt with last year, leading up to the BCS final rankings. There are so many factors involved that you have absolutely no control over.

The ranking you are looking at must not take into account The Citadel game, or counts it favorably (not sure what their record is, I assume it's over .500).

Last year's SOS computation by the BCS would have Auburn #27 at this point, OU #16 and USC #20.

You remove The Citadel and Auburn moves up to #20. After Tennessee, Auburn will be about #19/#20 but would have been about #10 without The Citadel on their schedule.

Some of the computer polls are definitely penalizing Auburn for this scheduling patsy. Anderson Sports, e.g., has Auburn listed as #48 in schedule strength. They even posted on their website that Auburn has played 4 bottom 40 teams, thus taking off more than a 1/3 of the season.

Texas A&M deserves their ranking, as they have had the toughest schedule in the nation with opponents records totalling 70-36. Too bad they lost to Baylor though.

OU and AU are close enough in the polls in points that a weak showing by OU coupled with a 2003 LSU/UGA SECCG type whippin MIGHT be enough for AU to edge OU for 2nd in the BCS. It will be down to the wire, no doubt.

But like Nick said last year, the system will work itself out. Just take care of your own business. That's all AU can do at this point is go out and smoke some Tenn and Phat Phil.

Unfortunately, for Auburn to overtake OU in the BCS, the 30 or so voters that have Auburn #3 in their polls and OU #2 in the polls have to reverse them. What is the likelyhood that it will happen? Zero.

Since I agree with your statement, we all have to have a collective Go Buffs come Saturday.

Also, you have to get Stoops to stop voting Auburn No. 4, as he has been doing of late.

I asked my wife those very questions. After much thought (2 sec) we decided we don't want your left nut. Thanks anyway.

I just emailed Ivan Maisel the following:

I read your column all the time and throughly enjoy it. I write to you today to hopefully to discuss a subject that the media has not yet asked Pete Carroll. If these two teams (OU and USC) meet in the Orange Bowl and USC or OU wins, as well as Auburn going to the Sugar bowl and beating the ACC champion, would Carroll in particular, lobby for a split national title because of what USC was given (or earned whichever way you want to look at it) last year. I think since USC realizes how it felt last year to be left out, they may understand the position of Auburn, and an agreement to split the title could be made. I believe that Carroll would probably reverse his stance from last year and Auburn will be left wondering how they went 13-0 without a title to show for it. I realize that this has happened before (See JoePaterno's first two undefeated seasons), but would College Football really be willing to disregard Auburn.

P.S. I am a LSU Tigers fan and alumni and really dislike Auburn, but this is getting ridiculous.

As much as I like the letter KTeam sent, FT is right. I don't know if anyone remembers back to the beginning of the season when everyone was pissed yet again, that we were getting no respect. People were e-mailing him like crazy. On the link to his mail bag he had something about "what happens when LSU fans get upset". This will no doubt rank up there on his "LSU whiner" list. I will keep my eye out and check to see if it makes it to the page because I would love to see it....I think I would probably tape it. In reality though, ESPN is still part of the media and USC/Matt Leinart is the prime specimen of a media whore.

I wouldn't have signed on as an LSU fan. I'd have said I was a Michigan or Ohio State alum, instead--someone with no vested interest.
