Would Frank Wilson or John Chavis be on Tennessee's radar? This isn't my area, and I know Wilson has never been a HC or a coordinator I don't think but he is an amazing recruiter, and has ties I believe, can't remember if he was a recruiter there or not...

Tenn. fans seem to think it's a 'done deal' that Gruden has already signed on to be the next head coach. I'll see if I can find the link.

Edit: Here's the link. Personally, I find it hard to believe that Gruden would leave his cushy gig at MNF, covering the game at the highest level, to take over Tenn. I'll believe it only when it's official.

Yeah I'm with you, I don't know if Gruden leaves that gig, it's a sweet gig. No pressure, just be a nut. What do you think about the original question?

Volunteer fans are unmatched in their delusional tendencies. It's been like that for a quite a while now. This Gruden thing is not happening. That's been practically confirmed. Still, the hysteria around Gruden is sickening. I guess the fans are just delirious from losing. I'm first and foremost an LSU fan. But, I still want to see the Tennessee football program become successful. The whole sports program has been turned into a joke. The former/ex athletic director, Mike Hamilton, ruined it. Yet, he's sailing away with his million plus buyout.

Chavis is getting a little buzz, not much though. Everyone thinks highly of him and thinks his strong ties to the program would make him a great head coach. Those that I've heard discuss it just don't seem to think that it's very likely. They are probably right. I can't see Dave Hart making that hire. Who knows what he may be thinking?

If I'm not mistaken, Chavis is on the record saying he is happy being DC and doesn't want a HC gig. And, even though he played for and coached at Tenn, I believe there's still some bitterness at the way he was forced out. If he does happen to leave, it's unlikely it will be back to Tenn unless they clean house entirely.

As for Wilson, he wouldn't be considered for a HC position, for the reasons you mentioned. I think we'll be ok with both of these guys.

lol damn you got to it before I did. I was gonna be like nope, not unmatched, Arkansas thinks Gruden is their next coach also.

And hasn't Chavis been on record saying he doesn't want to HC? Or was it just assumed since he doesn't really like talking to people.

USA Today reported a few days ago that

" Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart
    is one name to watch"

They didn't say anything about Chavis

One of ESPN's SEC analysts, Edward Aschoff, said this yesterday:

If Tennessee decides to make a
coaching change, I think Gruden has to be at the
top of athletic director Dave Hart's list. I think he'd
fit in well in the SEC, and could be a heck of a
recruiter with his personality. Gruden has ties to
Tennessee -- he met his wife while working with
Tennessee's staff -- and he knows East Tennessee
very well. He's very close to that area, and I have
no doubt he would be interested in the job if it
came open. Now, he could be pretty expensive to
bring in, and with Tennessee's financial issues,
plus Dooley's buyout, it could be tough to swing it.
But if there's a chance of being able to afford
Gruden, and Hart believes it's best to sever ties
with the current coaching staff, then I think
Tennessee would go after Gruden. But Dooley isn't
out the door. He could still guide this team to
eight wins, and if he does that, he should be back
    in Knoxville next year.
