I agree with what you said but they didn't struggle with great run defenses to many times, that's for sure.
I think there will be at least another game where we'll need Randall and Russell to pull out a W. Next time, it may be Russell starting and struggling at Auburn with Randall coming off the bench to save the day. I don't think the coaches want to go with a QB rotation but think the QBs will have games where their inexperience (Russell) or "deer in headlights" moments may cause the coaches to go with the other QB. Josh Booty's first action was when Rohan struggled early with Auburn at home. His first start was @ Georgia and nearly made himself a legend. Those early games defined his fate at LSU. I think Russell's fate is off to a good start. He made a lot of mistakes but something just feels right with him at QB. I have a feeling Randall will help us beat Auburn somehow, whether starting or off the bench. I would think Auburn has to prepare for both QBs now and that's an advantage for us.
How do we know that if Marcus Randall had stayed in the game after halftime, he wouldn't have performed better. Saban & Co. lit a fire under everyone's ass in the locker room, but Randall didn't get the chance to go out and perform. Russell was facing an increasingly fatigued Beaver defense, one that could barely run late in the 4th quarter. We don't know how Randall would have performed in that situation, because he didn't get the opportunity. What if Bowe's TD in the 1st quarter doesn't get called back? Does that boost his confidence and change the entire complexion of the game? What if it doesn't rain several inches minutes before kickoff? Does that change how Randall performs? There are far too many variables in the game for any of us to totally write off Marcus Randall as the starting QB right now. I, for one, hope he gets the chance to start Saturday. He deserves a chance to redeem himself. Just one other question: Why did it take until the 5th play of overtime for Jimbo to call a QB draw, something that plays to Randall's biggest strength?
I absolutely agree with BMoney. I think all the fan's frustration with the last game should have cooled down by now. It seems like we will have a two or three quarterback situation and hopefully their efforts all compliment each other to help the team win, like the way with Booty-Rohan, Rohan-Mauck in the past few years. I still have faith in Randall as I don't think he is that bad(unless he consistently screws up or freezes up/freaks out in the next two games). Seems like the challenge for him is overcoming any possible mental obstacles.I hope him the best. I think JR needs to study the playbook harder to compliment his serious talent. I also like Matt Flynn as I believe he is a smart QB aside from his physical talents. ________ UGGS
Very good points! Way too early to write off Randall given his tendency to be streaky, first game, good Or St def, young wrs. The only thing that tempers my concern with Jimbo's play calling is that we were never down a lot of points. Hell, you would have thought Jimbo would have gone to the tight end seeing as how the beavers' tight ends were killing us.
