I don't think he ever comes back to college. He's always been a pro guy at heart and went the college route, in part, to better his odds of getting a pro coaching gig.

You have to kiss a little ass as an NFL coordinator to get a shot at a HC gig, and that isn't Nick's style. He gambled on getting to the pros via the college ranks, hoping to parlay a string of college coaching successes into leverage to get an NFL HC gig on his terms.

    It worked.

If he fails now----which he won't, but just for the sake of argument, let's say he does---I say he becomes a DC somewhere for another team.

I am going with TejasTiger on this one. If he fails as HC at Miami then he will become a DC somewhere else.

The reason he wanted so much power is so he can CONTROL his own destiny. If he fails, he'll have no one to blame but himself. Most of the coaches that have had that kind of power in the past have tried to juggle too many jobs. They want to be the GM, HC, lead scout, etc (Holmgren, Davis). Nick is smart and will do it the right way. He will hire someone he trusts to put in those key positions and will help evaluate talent with them. I alos believe that he knows he will have to change some aspects of his coaching style to relate to the NFL player. But with him being the boss, he won't be afraid to cut or trade those who aren't onbard with his philosophy. Whether or not tis will make him successful remains to be seen

Parcells is the same way, and Parcells has immediate respect of NFL players. However he is failing miserably himself. Jones gave him the power, he cut the starting QB in Q-Car.
I guess there is some point to what you are saying, I am sure I will be wrong. BUT players in the NFL wont put up with Saban benching them because they fumble (See JV) and the owner wont either. You think Saban can bench their #1 draft choice because he fumbled or made a stupid play as he did at LSU ? Maybe but wait until Nike calls the Owner and says. "Our guys need to be on the field" and the player says, I just got a 15 mil signing bonus and you think you are going to bench me.
Hell most of the Miami players dont want him there anyway, one even said "He better not treat us like kids"....
Good luck to him, I look forward to LSU's future, could care less at this point about Sabans...

Nick will play who he wants to play, contract or no contract, bonus or no bonus. The thing he won't be able to do is cut stars due to the cap in some instances. But he has dealt with prima donna's before and he feels he can work with them and get the best out of them and he may be right. And he also has a firm belief in bringing high character guys into his program, so he just may not have as much trouble with his players and many believe he will. He won't be 100% right on every move but he'll be good at it. Belichick is a lot like Saban and he does one heck of a job at it.

Woah. If people think we are being too hard on Saban now, wait until he coaches in the SEC again AGAINST LSU....then the real bashers will come out.
