My point is that we are successful despite our offense and there is little to be gained by constantly complaining and wishing things were better.
Agreed!! We ARE succesfull DESPITE our offense....but guess what with a DECENT offense I think LSU could also be a national championship team....and isn't that what lsu is striving for?:tigereye:
I've criticized JJ. He didnt look horrible vs Bama. Credit where credit is due. Almost sounds like you are making excuses for Florida, but not cutting LSU any slack. No, I'm one of those people who believe in accountability and consequences. And fair trials. IMO, blaming Crowton for LSU's QB problems is wrong. yep.
If another OC could have turned Lee or JJ into star QBs, then you are right and I'm wrong. If JJ and JL are just not star QBs, then you are wrong. I guess we'll never know. Unless one of them becomes a star in their senior year, in which case YOU were wrong. Although if Crowton leaves and one of them becomes a star then you'll probably argue its due to the new guy, not progressive maturation which couldnt be rushed.
I really don't understand how you can go the lengths you do to defend to Crowton, when statistically it is apparent he is the problem. All you have to do is look at his previous stops, and see that the same pattern appears. Check out the numbers in this guy's blog LSU Fans Will Suffer Because of Gary Crowton – Picklewagon Crowton has a history of making good athletes look bad. I have non LSU friends who watch the games say, "When I know what they are going to run out of a formation, you can only imagine what the other teams know." Plus he is the QB coach. By your rationale we should still have Mallory and Peveeto as DC. Les made a switch, and the rest speaks for itself. After three years I'd say a change needs to be made for change sake, because something is obviously not working.
Correct. And chances are with Chavis still at the helm, our defense with it's seemingly limitless list of great playmakers and athletes are going to be dominant once again and our ground game will be more than sufficient as well. Another year of the status quo on the offensive side of the ball because of attitudes like SabanFan who say "hey it isn't hurting anything, is it?" would be downright criminal.
If Les really believed that this giant quantum leap in maturation and improvement was likely to happen with either JJ or JL, he would simply recruit one more QB for the 2011 class, and let JJ and JL light it up next year while Rivers and company learn the system as freshmen. The fact that we are aggressively pursuing a JUCO QB with 2 years less experience than either of our starters (and 0 in the SEC) tells me that he doesn't think there's any real chance this is going to happen. And honestly, I think fans are now seeing what Les has seen all along. That either due to lack of natural ability (which I don't believe), or piss-poor development/coaching (which I DO believe), neither JJ nor JL are SEC-caliber QBs and probably won't be as seniors under the status quo.
I dont think Les has thought all along that they dont have natural ability, or he never would have recruited them. But he has come to believe they are likely not going to blossom into stars. Going the JUCO route suggests he doesnt think its the fault of his coaching staff, right? Why bother to recruit another one if his staff is just going to screw up the new guy too.
Its very simple. I think any OC in the universe would have struggled with Lee or JJ as their QB in 2008 and 2009. I see. So Les was an idiot to hire Crowton when it was so obvious he was a bum. Likewise Florida State and Nebraska were idiots to hire our OC and DC has head coaches, when threads existed in TigerForums describing what losers they were. Dig in the archives and you'll find me calling for a new DC and that it was critical Les not let loyalty get in the way of winning.
