OK, who is Les going to replace Mettenberger with? Who do we have that is a proven commodity at quarterback?
Why, the back-up, Red. He's always the most popular QB on the team. I remember boneheads calling for Mickey Guidry when we had Hodson.
I said in my previous post. "Does that mean there are better options? Nope. But it's hard to imagine this offense could be any worse with Bolden or Rivers under center." You can't say that if there was a better option, Les would be using it because history has shown that for whatever reason, the best player isn't always on the field under Miles.
As far as a proven commodity, we have a proven commodity under center right now and he's proven to be very ineffective as quarterback. As usual the defense has had to put the team in it's back. I'm not saying there is necessarily a better option that will work but I know what isn't working.
Maybe, but Spurrier pulled Shaw for a back-up, and the back-up looks like crap. They're back-ups for a reason.
Sadly, I can imagine it. I think we have too much invested in Mettenberger to bench him, but I wouldn't mind seeing a reserve in the game from time to time. It takes a lot to earn a coach's confidence and you can't do it on the bench. Jefferson certainly improved when Lee was getting some playing time.
No way. Les will throw the playbook out at Bama and play anyone and everyone at QB who thinks will give us an edge over that dominating Defense. Look for Ware to play ALOT at QB and he will probably only play Rivers if Mett gets dinged-up. Mett is just barely good enough to help our Defense defeat the rest of the West in my opinion and so I think Les will stick with Mett because he has defended him so much this year already and he has the blind optimism to think Mett will just continue to improve better and better as the season goes on...
He won't pull him. Mett is awful. I don't say that lightly. He has shown little to no progress over the course of the season. The one bright spot is the reduction in turnovers for him in the last two games, but he is not a good QB for the reasons mentioned above, and I'll add some. Poor pocket presence, failure to read defenses, failure to recognize, failure to go through progressions. It's too bad because we do not have anyone else to turn to this season, so we are stuck with him and we have to pull for him to somehow turn it around. That is going to be a neat trick to pull off, but if he can do it, he better do it now. I am not very confident.
I can see us pulling out all the stops vs Bama. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we see a change of pace at QB. We need a different wrinkle, and Saban can't prepare for everything that we might do out there.
