I'm beginning to think I may have been wrong. (a Miles basher)

Doesn't matter where "I'm from" an over time win at any sport on any level is hard to rationalize as a "gimme".

When did Bear die? This is news to me. I just saw him and Elvis walking up and down my hallway last night. Elvis said he wishes Glanville would stop leaving those dang tickets for him. :thumb: :D

I think Miles will be a great coach and I don't think we have to worry about him jumping to the NFL anytime soon either. I mean if you look at it we have it good. I'm up here in Arkansas. i live close to the U of A and you ought to see what's going on here. Everyone here hates Houston Nutt. In fact they are saying they are not renewing season tickets. The OC (Gus Malzhon) who I think will be very good. Left and went to tulsa. QB coach is gone and DC I think is headed to North Carolina. The parade all-american QB Mitch Mustain is leaving. Their best WR is transferring to USC and that's just the beginning. It's a big mess here. So yeah I am very happy with Les Miles.

Good answer! I actually agree that, with the parity in college football today, there are no "Gimmes". Teams better come to play every Saturday. :thumb:

The parity has forced the element of "coaching" into the spot light. Many of these teams are pretty even on a talent level and the only thing left that separates them is coaching. One or two bad "coaching" moves in an SEC game now a days can cost you......trust me I KNOW.

As you've said, teams BETTER come to play every Saturday or they're liable to get lit up....

well, bama was pretty good in 05.

how many of these non-gimmies has lsu lost since it became a top program again ('03)?

how many times in this sec season did auburn, uf, lsu, uga and ut lose to bama, olemiss, vandy, uk, msu, sc? not many. the top teams only lose to the top teams and crap teams get sec wins over crap teams---by and large. clm shouldnt be considered a great coach for treading water. beating ole miss every year is expected. he gets paid to beat auburn and fla.

"Crap" team is a very relative term when talking about the SEC. Arkansas in 05 was a "crap" team but showed up in 06 and dismantled an Auburn team that LSU lost to, then Arky loses to LSU in the last game of the regular season. Arky played in the SEC Title game after winning what four games last season?

South Carolina (which is included in your "crap team" list) beat Florida last season and I believe Tennessee as well. Tennessee goes from a losing season in 05 to nine wins in 06. The SEC is the toughest conference in the country. Things change very quickly in the SEC. Being a "crap" team or a "top" team now a days in the SEC is a lot like the weather.....subject to change without notice. Miles has proven himself quite well.

The only thing lacking from Miles' resume right now is a championship. Once he wins the SEC, I think people will start to think of him as one of the best in college football.

He has made great hires. His recruiting is as good as any in college football. He has kept LSU in the national spotlight. Only one thing left for him to do to really cement his place in college football.

A point worth pondering. I've often wondered how the Bear, Darrell Royal, and other successful coaches of their time would fare today with scholarship limits.

I read it and nodded knowingly, confident that I'm always right and all non-believers eventually come to realize that.
