Fisher was a highly respected OC when he was at LSU and it was just a matter of time before he got a HC offer. I guess there was a little surprise when he decided to go to FSU in the same position he held at LSU, but I think everyone knew he was the HC in training. While he was here most everyone liked him and appreciated what he did for the LSU offense. Once he went to FSU however, he suddenly became a lousy coach and an idiot. Same thing with Saban.

Crowton came in here, first year OC with an entirely new system, with less talent than what Fisher was working with (especially if you do a straight up comparision between 06 and 07) and LSU averaged about 7 points more per game this year. If Crowton runs the offense last year, LSU probably averages close to 45 ppg, instead of low to mid 30s.

    That speaks volumes.

On the contrary, many LSU fans were begging for Jimbo to move on well before he left - including myself.

And as islttlslsls just pointed out, Crowton's offense has been much more impressive.

As for Jimbo, I always felt that he would make a better head coach than offensive coordinator. He can recruit & develop players, but his play calling is suspect.

So long as he doesn't try to call his own plays as HC, I think he'll be very good.

I think Jimbo probably cost us an NC in 06 (LSU demolishes tOSU, sounds familiar?). Anybody have the Auburn game taped, just watch it again, it's brutal.

On the other hand, Fisher has managed to make himself perhaps the highest-paid assistant coach in the country for the past 10 years. $400,000 to 500,000 a year with none of the pressures of being a head coach is a pretty sweet job. Now he's got a few years more of it waiting at FSU.

I'm beginning to wonder if being a head coach is all that important to Jimbo. He has turned down Delaware and Mississippi State already.

I think Jimbo is a better than average offensive coordinator and an excellent quarterback coach. You can't argue with the success he had at LSU under two coaches. Conservative, yes, but consistent and reliable. With the unusual opportunity to gradually take over at FSU, I suspect Jimbo will do well as a head coach . . . if he can recruit.

Id compare Fisher to the Republican party.......

The reason why I say this is (He is very conservative, but will surprise you every once in a while with a gay or sex scandal) just a joke conservatives.

very conservative play calling, will go deep down the filed every now and then.

That's an interesting assortment of replies

    Hi again folks,

Well, that was certainly an interesting set of replies concerning Jimbo Fisher. He sounds like a real football coach because the opinions seem divided somewhat which is the way it usually is for coaches. Especially for offensive coordinators. Like I said, he has been pretty well received here and if the new offensive line coach from West Virginia can get his side of things going maybe we will have a chance to improve in the future. I just have a gut feeling Jimbo will be able to recruit well. FSU just doesn't have the quality players it used to and I think some of that may have been due to Coach Bowden's age and maybe Jimbo can help fill that void or question mark. We'll just have to see. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work. If it works then it works. Time will tell. Meanwhile, they are going to let Jimbo get some more experience in booster relations, fund raising etc. and the like. I guess a head coach helps raise funds. And the #2 QB in the country has committed here so we'll see.

I think the LSU-Florida game this year was one of the greatest games I have ever seen. Wow! Even though it worked people were still second guessing Miles on his calls late in the game when he chose to keep on running. He seems a gambler. That pass play he called in that game with no time left on the clock was insane! But uhh... well, it worked.

I think Coach Saban was a little suprised at how many games Alabama lost this year. I could be wrong but that was the feeling I got.

I grew up 90 miles from Gainesville and live 150 miles from there now. They have a QB there in Gainesville that is kind of famous right now if you catch my drift.

Good luck in the BCS game. If anyone is still interested or hasn't done so yet please post more replies about Jimbo. It's interesting.

7-3 actually, and he kept running the ball into the line for 1 and 2 yard gains setting up 3rd and longs constantly, putting JR in a very difficult situation.
