Self preservation happens with W's. His goal isn't mediocrity, his goal of late has been to not take as many risks with a young football team especially young QB's, and create an offense based around what has a high percentage of success for his team. That formula has actually served him pretty well, now, it's been less effective over the last 3 years because the noose has gotten tighter due to young players on the defensive and offensive side of the ball, and limited capability at the quarterback position. But as Harris and Jennings get more reps, and get better, that noose may loosen up a bit.
