Well I'm against all socialist welfare programs, so I'm definitely against having them for illegal immigrants. Immigrants won't be the reason that our government goes broke - it will be our own fault when it happens.

A giant wall won't stop anything. They will have tunnels, they will take boats etc. It will, at best, slow them down a little.

The key is to enforce laws that we already have, including deporting people or making them have papers when we find them. Once we can start dealing with all the ones we have here and make them afraid they will be caught if they come, then we can start to patrol the border & control who comes into our country.

Mexico isn't the only easy way to get into this country. Why does it get all the attention? The main people coming here from Mexico are mexicans. Al Quada and who ever else can come in any way they like - including planes & boats on any coast they want, or Canada.

I'll concede there is an element of immaturity in my question, but it was mostly sincere. The phrase bud of a joke just caught my attention and I was curious as to why you chose it. Was it just an accident (i.e. typo)? Or...

Did you not know it was really butt? BTW, I don't mean this to be disparaging in any way. A lot of these phrases are really old and the context that gave them their meaning is foreign to most of us today. A lot of times when you examine the actual words they don't seem to make sense, but we use them anyway because we come to know what the phrase means even if we don't know why. However, sometimes we hear someone else use a very similar sounding word that seems to make more sense to us, so we conclude that this new way must actually be the correct phrase and we adopt it. Was this the case? Or...

Do you find the word butt offensive and prefer not to use it? Are you reluctant to use the word because of one of it's many meanings. Or, were you intentionally saying something different than butt of a joke? Just curious.

There's very little we can do for Mexico's entire economy. That's up to them to fix. They are illegals, if it was easy to make them get payed minimum wage & pay taxes - they would be. They chose occupations like landscaping and are very hard to track, making enforcing wage laws very difficult.

All the experts seem to say the Canadian border is the bigger terrorism threat.

We need to start a revolution in Mexico or a gold rush.
    This is the only way.

Maybe we should invade Mexico instead of Iran or any other country? :hihi:
Maybe we can get JR Ewing or Mayor Nagin, Kathleen Blanco
or Donald Trump to fix things over there?
    Who would be the one?

BTW, nope, I didn't know it was butt instead of bud!:dis:
Now butt out!:hihi: :)  :thumb:

I understand we need to enforce the laws we have but enforcing them on 11 million is quite a task. OK, so legalize all the ones we have now, like we've done before, and then keep people out. If we allow 6,000 in a night, how do you theorize that we will enforce the laws already on the books?

The point IMO is to keep them out!

I agree with one of the callers to the Walton and Johnson show.

We should gather all the illegals up, knock them all out, transport them up to Montanna and leave then within distance of the border.

When they awake let them run across into Canada.

Awwwww! Poor, poor Mexico is being unfairly singled out!

The obvious point is that it is easier to plug a leak than a flood. Mexico provides about 70% of the illegals in the US, Canada provides less than 1% (LINK). Now, if you are a dark-haired, dark-skinned person with an accent, where would you try to blend in with the crowd coming into the country.

We have actually caught Al Qaida terrorists coming into the country from Canada and the Clinton administration foiled the Millineum bombing plot, which was terror on a 9/11 scale. Canada works with us to stop cross-border traffic. Mexico works against us.

Can't help it can you? The Clinton Administration did nothing of the sort. An alert Border Control cop foiled the plot. Border Control wasn't alerted to any plot before he "foiled" it. I read an article on the whole thing.

That's like saying the Clinton Administration caught the Baton Rouge serial killer.
