Ohio State, in my opinion, gambled big and got damned lucky with firing cooper. I think it is generally foolish to fire a winning coach, in noteable cases such as Nebraska and Ole Miss. It seems to me not to be an expression of expectations but rather of arrogance. It seems to me that hiring a head coach is largely based on sheer luck. No one could've expected Saban to have the wild success he had here. Factors that no one could see added up to make an amazing result. We translate that into meaning that we are now a top tier program and have long since rejected our losing ways. Hence, if our post-saban coach loses, he is obviously falling short of LSU's potential, and should be cast aside. The thing people fail to realize is that LSU's potential is precisely dependent on the head coach, and firing someone as good as Miles to cast our fishing rods back into the pond of mediocre fish in hopes of snagging the one amazing fish is foolish, because you can only take one cast per 5 or 6 years. My point is that I am all for risk taking, but only when you can keep trying again. With head coach hiring you get one try over a long period of time, and hence such a decision is NOT to be embarked upon lightly (such as being discontent with the nature of a win.) That is why until Miles has a 7-4 season or worse, I won't be complaining, because the chances of finding someone worse are far too great. Also, something that irks me about people's arguments against Miles is that they seem anything but sincere, simply because they aren't really complaining about what yesterday's game was, but rather what it portends, and that is a mistaken view. If we beat Arkansas by 90 next week, no one on this board will continue saying, "Yeah, but we almost got beat by Ole Miss." Why? Because the fear of losing to Arkansas that was born of ALMOST losing to Ole Miss will clearly be eliminated, and that's all this is really about. I apologize if I ignite tempers.
Well if this IS true, I certainly hope HE improves. I guess it isn't unheard of for a coach to get better just like players when given the tools to do so? Richt is a pretty good coach and look where he has been in the last few years, up and down. Every one points to mack Brown when they say "cant win the big one" but he eventually did. Was it luck? or did he improve coaching? or was the talent level so great he just had to eventually? You choose.
Cooper was 6-6 and 8-4 his last two years and had a myriad of other problems pop up, as well as losing to Michigan 10 out of 13 with one tie.
since we are discussing other schools - look at RC Slocum's record at A&M during his tenure, then look at his successor's..........Fran has never beaten Texas, Oklahoma, or Nebraska.
Couldn't have said it better. Give some people a little taste of success and nothing short of perfection will ever do.
If they don't, your rhetoric will certainly dry up. You can only use the "Nick's recruits" line for two more years.
and no amount of winning is going to change your mind. You are allowed to say almost anything you want to here. Have you been deleted or banned? No. But . . . if you say something that is controversial, ridiculous, or simply impossible to defend, people are liable to contradict you and shoot holes in your argument. Internet forums work that way. If you are going to throw out bombs at winning LSU coaches and players on an LSU board, you can expect some rebuttle. Don't be so thin-skinned if you are going to be controversial.
I havent read through this thread, however, I have noticed no Hog fans have posted. They must know their boundries:hihi:
Very first series of his career after Katrina and moving the game and you are taking notes because you didn't like the choice. Very LSU of you. By the way, Les didn't call the fake. The punter did. And how many times has that happened? You would prefer that he not call the time out and phuck up the play? There's a lot of stuff going on on the sideline and the HC is responsible for all of it. If the team was heading to the field and Les thought something wasn't right, he should call time out. That's what they're for. Such as? If you are talking about early in the season, KW and Scott just weren't ready yet. Last night? He's honoring a senior. That's what players' coaches do. Besides, JV ran as well as anyone in the 1st 2 series. As opposed to burning them in a tight game? You have no idea what goes into the coach's personnel decisions so you have no standing to criticize. Question? Certainly, but burning a redshirt is not a sign of bad coaching. It's the sign of a coach who knows his personnel and what his plans for them are. That's just stupid. I was watching the game and I was surprised. Besides. They didn't convert it. The refs did. Ole Miss had a player on the 44 yard line with his back to the kicking team and the ball hit him right square in the ass. Funny how great a coach he was in the first half. The other side gets to adjust too. The defense failed to execute there and lost the game. This was Bo Pelini's 2nd game at LSU and the defense was still learning his system. By the 2nd quarter of the next game the defense hit it's stride and has never looked back. Spurrier was 0-10 in his 1st season at Florida. A sign of bad coaching? My son's girlfriend is almost pregnant. Will I see a grandchild? Nope. Michigan almost lost to Ball State. Southern Cal did lose to Oregon. Auburn almost lost to Alabama. I could go on, but even you should get the point. It has been documented ad nauseum that score comparisons mean absolutely nothing. 99% of LSU fans look at a 49-0 win as something good. You've taken 2 negatives from it. I guess a few handoffs might prepare RP for something but, I'd suggest that Spring Training, Fall practice and the little get togethers the team has just about every day between games is a better time to prepare a High Schooler with no major college game experience. Also, RP, standing and watching on the sidelines is all about preparation. Confusing to who? You? I suspect Les doesn't give a damn if you can't figure out what's going on. Confusing the opponent? Now, that's a good thing. See above. The OL has struggled with the run game. Better to have your experienced backs in there. Les is bringing KW along at the pace Les feels is right. He's the one with his neck on the line. Scott? Don't know why he's not in there but it's not because Les is stupid and doesn't realize he's good. Again. Coaches know their personnel a lot better than fans do. Again. Discussed many times. Suffice it to say that the problem has been rectified. No idea what you're referring to, but I'm sure you've got insights into LSU's players that the coaches don't. No!
