1. Well, being that TAF doesn't open their books.....

and is run as a private concern not under LSU control,I obviously think that LSU's numbers are questionable. LSU's numbers are probably higher than what LSU reported as a result of TAF's status.
  2. Re: Well, being that TAF doesn't open their books.....

True, but so are every other school's.
  3. I don't know that other states laws allow a TAF type situation....

I doubt that all of the other states would allow a private concern be established specificly to get around public bid laws for construction and support of a state university.

Not that in LSU's case it's a bad thing because Louisiana laws are so damn full of red tape that a construction project can be tied up for years just getting funding.

I would bet that TAF, while it may not be completely unique in its' status, structure, and relationship to a state university, is
set up in a way that might not be allowed in some other states.
  4. Re: I don't know that other states laws allow a TAF type situation....

Agreed. I'm pretty sure the TAF deal regarding Tiger Stadium and the Assembly Center would be illegal in most states. I'm surprised no one ever challenged the legislature in court about the "lease".
  5. Re: I don't know that other states laws allow a TAF type situation....

You've got to be kidding me. When TAF was developed LSU was simply copying what Clemson and S. Car. started years ago and & UT, UF, aTm, OSU, etc all had copied. LSU was one of the last of the big schools to implement a program like that.
  6. Re: I don't know that other states laws allow a TAF type situation....

IPTAY, The 12th Man Foundation, et al are not nearly as involved with physical plant improvements as TAF. TAF was a piddlin' outfit in the '80's, it is now a monster and deserves a great deal of credit for keeping ticket contribution requirments down. Without the TAF, it would be a $2500 a pop annual contribution just buy seats in the original sections of Tiger Stadium.
  7. Stop! You're killing me, that is TOO funny.

ULL basketball as a profit center! Baseball making enough to cover football's losses! What next? Softball saves the day?

ULL football lost $1,011,328. Women's sports lost $1,099,007. That totals over $2.1 MILLION in loses. Do you really expect me to believe Crawfish basketball, drawing about 4,000 a game and baseball at 1,700 a game are going make up that kind of deficit? How much are tickets? $1,000?

ULL's numbers are to the EXACT dollar, expenses $7,250, 231 and revenue of $7,250,231. That is a statisical impossiblity. ULL is making up the deficit out of general funds allocated to the university.

Quit trying to parade ULL as a D-1 power. ULL is a regional school with a very small, but extremely vocal fan base. ULL is the personifcation of the Napoleon complex.

Smoke and mirrors to make numbers say anything, nothing more, nothing less...
  8. actually.. if you just count the 67,319 (2,321 per game in 29 games, which ranked 20th nationally) who attended baseball games last year, that averages out to $30 dollars per person...
  9. So baseball doesn't have any expenses at all? And people pay $30 per person to attend ULL baseball games?

Look, my wife graduated from USL. I actually pull for ULL when they are not playing LSU. It drive me nuts when ULL plays the "equality" game. ULL is not breaking even in athletics. There's nothing wrong with it, since taxpayers are subsidizing all state college athletic departments but one (the only mandated by law to operate in the black).
  10. Re: I don't know that other states laws allow a TAF type situation....

Interesting site for all of this.. http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/search.asp search any school and see their sport by sport numbers..
