I would think they are not on the hotseat, but an interesting 'proactive' move. I wonder if it will start a trend either way - schools buying up domains, or fans buying them in the event of a coaches downturn. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2806234
Since domains are typically not that expensive it's a good idea. However, do these web sites really have that much of an impact? Other than being mentioned in jest on Sportscenter sometimes.
Sorry, should have posted the link on "that guy" post. Here it is: http://thewizardofodds.blogspot.com/2007/03/iowa-purchases-firekirkferentzcom.html Here's the latest... apparently every version of the "fire.coms" has been or is being registered by "fans" now that they think they might get paid for it. Only in America. Oops, better post the link for "the latest", don't wanna get sent to "that guy" prison!! http://deadspin.com/sports/college-football/iowa-stifles-online-dissent-almost-245194.php
This seems stupid to me. I mean, if fans really want a coach gone then they'll buy fireferentz.com or fireiowasfootballcoach.com. The possibilities are limitless, and Iowa won't be able to buy them all up.
Well, Alford just got hired at New Mexico. We took down the firestevealford.com and replaced it with hirestevealfordplease.com... got an immediate bite.
