Depends on if you want to sign up for a trail offer to something on the net and get 3 to 5 others to do the same.

When I got mine in, I installed Itunes then I look all over iTunes for a button or something to send the songs to the ipod, started getting mad because I couldn't find one. then about 15 minutes later I just plugged in the ipod and it did it by itself.

BB, I have a massive amount of music on my PC, and 4GB worth of memory is probably all I'll need to put every song I want on there...The 20GB drive is more $, but it's not necessarily worth it...It's more like, "Does it make sense for you?"

Please note that you cannot transfer MP3's to the IPOD without first converting them to AAC. While ITunes handles this seamlessly, there is a quality loss associated with encoding already encoded files (the aac compression algorithm further compresses your already compressed MP3's in a different manner, causing further quality loss).

Your best bet is to forget about your MP3 collection and just worry about transferring from clean (CD) sources.

That is not true at all. The players natively plays mp3 files.

If you have an iPod, enable disk drive mode, enable hidden folders, then go to the ipod, click the iPod_control folder, then music, then one of the F## folders and you will see inside that there are MP3 files, not AAC files.

I've had a 30GB Ipod for a year and a half and it is problem free. I've got every CD I own on it (400+) and about 250 downloaded tunes and I still have about 1/3 free space. I use the FM transmitter attachment and play it in my vehicle and on my office radio--or anybodys radio for that matter, wherever I am.

I can play it through my home stereo via cables where it charges in its docking station. But mostly at home I now just use Itunes itself from the laptop that connects with the stereo via wireless local LAN. So now all of the CD clutter goes off into a storeroom. If I can ever get around to ripping down about 400 LPs I have that were never released on CD, then I can move them to the storeroom too and free up a lot more space in the front room around the sound equipment.

I can sit on the couch with the laptop and make a long playlist and then let the robots do the rest. The next time I sync the Ipod with the laptop, the playlist and any new tunes will be added.

The Ipod is extremely well crafted, durable and worth the money. Itunes is a fine program and it is free.

In my experience, the AAC format is superior to the MP3 format, especially when they are ripped at 192 or above.

you should quit trying to validate your iq claim in futile attempts to sound intelligent because with each further post it becomes a more and more unlikely claim. Either that or you just had a good day like UAB.

i am with TE in that 4-6 gb seems like enough.

for me at least, i dunno what i would do with 40 gigs, except for store porn where ladies will not find it and embarass me. i have 110 gigs of space on my computer, and i only filled it with 4 gigs of music. and it is plenty.

and the mini is a ton cheaper. i say go with the mini unless you are a music madman and plan on putting every cd you own on it. i cant even fill up an old school first gen 5 gig ipod. i only need to be able to go a a few hundred hours without hearing a repeat, not a solid month 24/7.

well I am one who thinks that size matters. I foresee down the road that I will enjoy my full 20 gigs and ordered that one.

either that or Im just trying to validate my post-UAB purchase.

well, i know peeps that have filled multiple zillion gig ipods with music and have pretty much thrown out cds entirely, so i guess i could be in the minority that is satisfied by a measly 4 gigs.
