Our offense has been missing for years. But I'd be lying if I said I was disappointed in a 7-1 record. I'm very happy. I'm also old enough to remember the inconsistancy of the early '80s, the highs of the mid 80s, and the lows of the late '80 and disaster of the early '90s all the way to the hiring of St. Nick. I was one of the few who was hoping Jimbo would get a head coaching gig elsewhere (and I hope he gets one next year) but 7-1 is 7-1. Could it be better? Yes, but it could also be a lot worse. :geauxtige
I think it's just hard to get up for a team like Appy St. Especially when you already play to your opponents level. We will beat Bama, just watch and see.
I just think we are not near as talented as most of us think or thought we are. And that isn't say we aren't a tleneted team, just that we don;t have an overwhelming amoun of talent comared to the other teams in the sEC and several are just as talented IMO. Heck, we may be getting more out of these guys than we should be with a 7-1 record and chance to go 10-1 in the regular season. Most of these guys are the same ones who struggled to go 9-3 last year minus some good football players., maybe Saban's coaching job was good than too. And maybe it wasn't just the QB's who caused us to struggle like many thought.
Good points! Very good points. I feel the same way. One of these days, maybe this team will gel. I hope it is Saturday, against Bama.
This team hasn't gelled. Can you blame them? 2 hurricanes, 3 games moved (either in time or location) AND a new coaching staff!? Anyone from the outside could see why this team wouldn't gel right away. I think we, as LSU fans, have a tendency to see LSU's negatives more than the general public. LSU fans didn't rank us 5th - the country did. LSU is playing just as good of ball as Georgia & Bama, they are ranked right next to us. The truth is every team has struggles, fans just tend to see it more in their own team. We are 7-1, ranked 5th in the country - no, I'm not dissapointed with that. I am dissapointed with a few specific things about our team, but EVERY team has problems, and things for fans to be dissapointed in - even USC & Texas. It's how you play to overcome those things that matters, and this team has shown tremendous heart to be able to come back & win some very tough games. Those of you who are dissapointed in Miles & think he was a bid hire, just ask yourself this - would we have won these games in the late 80's or 90's? The answer is no. Miles isn't perfect, but neither was Saban. Before he's done here, Miles will accomplish great things - I guarantee it.
I don't have to go to the games to know that he is a negative person. If I didn't know better, I'd think this post was about Arkansas. We are 5th ranked in the nation, steamrolling toward the SECCG and possibly the Sugar Bowl. Just what the f*ck would make you happy?
Great post! Even w/o the hurricanes, the rescheduled and moved games, I think most of us on this board would have been happy if we had a crystal ball and saw we would be 7-1 at this point of the season. Also most of us here bleed purple and gold, and we are very emotional and passionate about LSU. That said, CParso has it right when he says we as LSU fans tend to see the team's negatives moreso than the rest of the country. Should we have scored more than 40 against a Div. I-AA team? Probably, but who cares. We won, and pitched a shutout in the process. Now let's focus on beating Bama! :geauxtige
I am not disappointed in the win lose record. I think alot of us expected worse. How often does a team change coaches and have this record at this point in the season ranked #5 ? I am no more disapointed in the lose to Tenn. than the ugly win over florida with all the mistakes. Sure I'd rather the "L" be a "W" but the way our team plays sometimes does dissapoint me. ONLY BECAUSE I KNOW THEY CAN DO BETTER. I know that with a little more chemistry we'd be undefeated and beating our opponents so bad they'd be saying USC had no chance. yes it's possible. I do not think that our talent level is lower than everyone thought. I think we have SO MUCH talent it is hard to get them to all "gell". Hard to get the ball to 5 track stars on every other play. Now I'm not saying we need "less" talent, I think we need to find a way for this team to have a "stake" in it together.. Play like ONE unit.... and I firmly believe that it's because of a lack of leadership. The 2003 team had mucho leadership. I dont mean coaching type, I mean on the field type. Matt didnt have as much talent as Jamarcus but he had a fire in his gut and leadership. many other's too.... can't name them all. One thing you always heard throughout the 2003 year was the teams leaders. it was obvious and was pointed out by the media several times. don't see much of that this year. Talent has actually kept us in every game, and we've won all but one of them. We have no reason to gripe at all. really. We should be proud of them, I am. if this team played up to it's potential, they'd be comparing it to the all time great college teams of the past. seriously. I think with time, this team could develop that. if everything stays the same...pretty much...... and some real leaders step up.... and no talent leaves .....we should dominate for a few years. times are still good and it's great to be a TIGER. :geauxtige
