I agree that this team lacks on the field leadership. Last year's team lacked it too. In 2003, we had Jack Hunt leading the defense & Matt Mauck leading the offense. You can't discount how much that means to a team to have those kinds of veterans to look up to. I believe our "talent" level is lower than we were being hyped as. A lot of expectations on this team were based on recruiting stars, not on prior production. In that sense, I am not sure they have all developed to their potential yet. So yes, I believe we were somewhat overhyped in terms of talent, but we're still just as talented as anyone in the SEC.
Did Saban demand excellence when Georgia pounded us last year? Did he demand excellence in 2003 when a Florida team that finished unranked beat us at home with our best team in decades? What about when Saban struggled to beat dam near everyone on the schedule last season (outside of Miss St & Ark) - was he demanding excellence then?
actually yes he did demand excellence, that doesn't mean he got it. No doubt Miles demands it too, just the method may be different and results may vary. time will tell.
Old Fashioned is a cube of sugar, a couple of dashes of Angostura bitters, one slice of orange, one cherry, a shot of whiskey and a shot of water and ice. Greatest cocktail on the planet. As long as they exist there will never be any hope of me attending an AA meeting.
That was my point. Saban demanded it, but that doesn't mean he got it. Just because Miles hasn't gotten it doesn't mean he doesn't demand it.
I think the problem is definately a lack of leadership, or lack of "gelling." The talent thing gets old quick because there are literally thousands of "talented" players coming out of high school. Every school has talent. It is how that talent comes together that determines how the season plays out. Having said all of that, this team is in shambles... You can't blame them. They went through a lot obviously but... their minds really should be on football by now. I guess I can't blame them there either because the hurricanes really screwed up everything...
But then you are saying that none of us could do a better job either, and this simply not so, look at all the experts we hace on this board. :hihi: Wonder how many times we have to see better talent on the opposite side of the ball before we all realizer we are not all that? Except for Wroten we don't have a Bush or a Sims or a Jarrett or a Greenway or a Hawk or a Hass, etc. I think we have many very good ball players, but not close to the overwhelming talent that guys like FT think we have. I's say that all 5 top SEC teams have very equal talent and would probably throw UT in there as well. Fulmer is the one coach in this group that is not doing his job at the moment.
