I will never be disappointed in an LSU team that is 7-1 and ranked #5. LSU has improved each game, all season long. There is no such thing as perfection, anyway. I just don't know what some of you expect. This time two years ago we were ranked 7-1 and ended up winning the National Friggin' Championship. Sure we can grumble about games that could be better, players that should perform better, plays that should work better, and coaches could that plan better. But I am delighted that LSU is ranked #5, headed for a BCS bowl, is slightly favored over an #3 undefeated team . . . and still has room to improve! Why ain't you?
That isn't talent - it's potential. People were saying all off-season that we had some of the most talent in the country. The truth was that we had some of the most highly recruited kids in the country with tons of potential that hadn't yet produced. Judging from his recruiting success thus far, I don't think that it will be a problem. I agree that our passing game is limiting us. Sometimes it's because we don't pick up the blitz & Russell isn't given time, sometimes it's because Russell makes bad decisions, but mostly it's been because the receivers have been sloppy. The longballs so many of you have been calling for haven't been as successful as we'd like. The good news is I believe these have all continued to improve this season & I look for a nice outing against Bama. I know it feels that way, but look at the teams ranked next to us & tell me that we aren't on the same level. Bama's offense can't score a touchdown & they are ranked right ahead of us. Every team has there flaws to deal with. I think 7-1 is 7-1. Maybe we're unlucky to be 7-1 & should be 8-0, or maybe we're lucky & should be 5-3. Last year's team under Saban had heart & was able to win a few games that were close, but also lost 2 games that maybe they should have won. Every team has close games, but don't assume it's luck that we won them but yet coaching when we lose them (not saying you necessarily do, but some people...)
Perhaps the other teams should consider themselves lucky for being able to come close by relying on dropped touchdown passes.
I'm guessing the 4 point win over Troy St. last season impressed you more? Sounds kinda like last years team. Except this year they are doing much better. Same exact team, but much improved, what more do you want? Except for maybe Saban, by this time last season he had two losses already. It's like you're stuck on stupid. Maybe you should get over the notion that we have the MOST talent in the country. Maybe, just maybe this team isn't as talented as you think. See last year.
I'm just not sure we know that right now. All have had their close calls. And Bama (Prothro) and Georgia (Shockley) have both lost key starters that they have been unable to replace, although they're saying Shockley will play. Saturday will say a lot toward the correctness of your opinion. My guess is Jawjah and Bammer get rolled over on Saturday.
Honestly, I do wonder what I'd be like if LSU was crushing people left and right and was 8-0 right now. Why do I wonder? Because, even with such a stellar season and an 8-0 record, LSU would still trail both USC and Texas in the BCS. By a lot. Our opponents have just sucked ass this year, with teams like Tenn., Az St and UNT really bringing us down. I'd like to think wins over an undefeated Alabama and a 1 loss Georgia would close the gap, but it'd be too close for comfort, IMO. If LSU romped to a 12-0 record and didn't get in to the Rose...wow, now *that* sucks!
This thread is going nowhere, b/c just about everyone on here will just have to agree to disagree. However, that quoted line is hilarious.
We are loaded with potential and raw talent and also have plenty of real talent. Whatever you call it, against strong teams we've stayed in the game not because we have things together but because we've got quite a group of players together. Geaux tigers.
