That sounds like some drag queen getting caught in womens clothing and saying I'm not a queen I'm just delivering my sister a change of clothes. You had no idea who Lou Saban was before satan came to town and your handle never had anything to do with Lou but nice try.

Lighten up, Twister. Have you no sense of humor? Do you honestly think I'm trying to fool people into thinking...never mind.

I've been on this board since 2002. SabanFan is my name here. That's all. You should read no more into it than I should by thinking you are actually "twisted" or are some kind of big striped cat. SabanFan is how I am known here. Nothing more than that. I should admit, though, that, as a moderately mature adult, I would never consider changing my name because a footbal coach moved around a little. Truth be known, Saban wishes he was still here and that's actually a compliment to us.

Saban seems to think it might have been a small mistake:

    http://www.finebaum.com/20070131_CNS.html

“It was brought to my attention this afternoon that some comments attributed to me are being disseminated on the internet and in the news media, comments that include wording that can be taken as derogatory by some people. Those comments need to be placed in the proper context, so as to understand the meaning of what was said. The words were used in paraphrasing a story told to me by a friend. I was simply using the same wording used by the person who told me the story. The term in question is not language that I use or condone, and I can understand how some would take offense. However, I think it must be noted that those comments were made ‘off the record’ and the words merely reflected an anecdote that was told to me using that language.”

So he thinks the "word" is bad, but it is OK to use the word if you are just repeating a story if it is "off the record"?

I know a girl who owes me a HUGE apology for her reaction from hearing some things I said about her that I did not intend to get back to her.

The point is that in my story the comments from my driver weren't a big deal at all. They weren't directed at another guy or his race. However, the lady that heard the comment was offended and felt she should let me know. Therefore I felt like I had to investigate and inform my driver that such behavior isn't tolerated.

The same's true with Saban's comment. You're right - to me and many others, it really isn't a big deal. However, there are people it offended. Sorry but he should have thought about this before he said it.

I'm not an irrational hater of Saban. I haven't made a comment to even remotely convey this or make you believe this. To be quite frank, I really hope he does well at UA. We play them every year and beating a 6-6 team doesn't help us much.

Yea I think that's the point that needs to be made is we get it-- it's not that big a deal what he said, those kind of jokes are made all the time around here, but let's at least point out the inconsistencies and double-standards that happen all the time with this kind of issue.

Cause we all know he could have made the same exact joke, simply taken out the ethnic group he used with another minority or ethnic group and still used "those people" like he did. OMG he would have been burned at the stake of public perception and he would have been having to kiss public "pc" butt for years to come and his reputation in the media eye would have all but been destroyed.

great example-That former senator Trent Lott who got "busted" for making a now infamous and vauge comment referencing a 100 year old senator at a b-day that was "off the record". The comment, which he even admited many times was in Jest and not to be taken seriously or be recorded. What happaned to him? His career was over and he had to resign not long after making the comments and apologized tons and tons of times for doing what? Making a comment "off the record" at some b-day party referencing a half joke designed for somebody else to hear. Sound familiar?

That's the part that annoys me I could care less how he referenced us in Louisiana cause it wasn't that big a deal and it's a free world you should be able to say what you want without somebody getting offended over a lil joke. (On a side note though, Now right back at ya, if you can dish it out you need to be able to take it and Nick better be ready to take it in 2008 when we member every little thing he says about us and then we whip his tail in tiger stadium) That's what wrong with this country though is there's a clear double standard, it should be one way or the other, and it's not, it's a "PC" world out there, so watch out before you say something.

Colin Cowherd just ripped Saban over this saying: "He's half the man we thought he was."

Umm, Trent Lott resigned his post in the Senate as Majority Leader, but his career was in no way "over". He's still a Senator.
