Ive never been the biggest Hester supporter when has come to him being a RB. However, Miles mentioned he was prob. the best player on the team. Coaches dont just say that about a player all the time. Ill take it from Coach that he is something special.
I was one of the guys saying too much Hester, until he made that TD run last night. My knock was I thought he was slow. He proved me wrong. And after seeing the way he ran and the way JV blocked last night, I'm thinking maybe they should switch positions.
My main criticism of LSU's offense last night was: too much hester... I think it was all a ploy by Miles to fool Auburn into thinking AB wasn't 100%. However, who would have thought that he'd have had the night that he did? Hester is versatile, but I guarantee you that he's not better than AB running the ball or Bowe hauling in a pass. With having said that, I think he's a fine player and a GREAT asset to this team. However, I'm sorry, but I'm not so sure that he should EVER lead LSU in receiving yardage... Not with the receivers that we have.
The guy scores rushing and passing. He doesn't drop the ball. he gets the yards he is supposed to get and is damned dependable about doing it. he has shown a breakaway run and he has shown he can get open for a pass. he can block, too. Why the hell wouldn't we use him as much as possible? We are going to run a platoon of running backs at LSU this year and Hester is going to be one of them. The way he's playing now he could end up the starter. Broussard in not 100% and must be played sparingly early or we may lose him later. Vincent and Hester will carry the load until Scott and Williams can come around. They ain't there yet and still have their stupid freshman mistakes in front of them. They will be stars next season, but right now they are reserves and we can't afford to rely on them. Hester, Vincent, and Broussard know the game and their stupid freshman blunders are behind them.
I agree that Hester is very good. But being a freshman doesn't exclude you from becoming the starting tailback. Just ask Vincent.
No, it's not....but it's the perception that he's listed technically as a "fullback" and wasn't a 4 and 5-star RB coming out of high school like Alley, JV, KW and Scott, so people automatically look at him and say, "he doesn't have break-away potential", etc. My response to anti-Hester comments are: 1. Did he average JUST as many yards per carry as those "break away RB's" on our roster?? 2. He IS scoring TD's 3. Did we not still win the game?? So WHO THE HELL CARES???
Hester has NEVER played fullback until he came to LSU. The guy has speed, period. What he may lack is the ability to tiptoe around or put a fancy juke move on a tackler, but what he does have is the ability to get to his top-end speed quick and put a DB on his back. Putting him in as a Blocking back like Steltz was before him would be a total waste.
