Tim Shaffer / Reuters Dan Wilkins Apr 26, 2016 07:27 JaMarcus Russell isn't giving up on his NFL career just yet. The former Oakland Raiders quarterback, who was out of the league just three seasons after being selected No. 1 overall in 2007, says he'd do anything for another opportunity. "God makes things happen for a reason," Russell explained in a video on SI.com. "Who's to say? You might see me back. You never know, man. You never know. Whatever it is, I can be a water boy and work my way into a scout team. It doesn't matter. I'll go play for free." Starting just 25 games in his time with the Raiders, leading the way to a 7-18 record, the former LSU standout threw for just 4,083 yards and 18 touchdowns, with 23 interceptions. Russell has attempted to return to the NFL on multiple occasions since the Raiders opted to cut their losses in 2010, but he doesn't appear to have generated much interest since tryouts with the Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins later that year. The 30-year-old signed a deal worth $32 million guaranteed upon first landing in Oakland, and he's now widely considered one of the biggest draft busts in league history. God made him sizzurp himself into not giving a fuck about football. He better play for free. For that indoor football league Jared lorenzen played in. Bc no one else will go near him. Your window of opportunity is minute in the NFL. Even as a number 1 pick.
How much of that 32M yall think he's got left? Maybe enough to buy a couple bottles of Grape Dehi. (Purple Drank) .................................
"They say he's not broke" .... at least that's what is said on the radios. But for me here's the thing - how many #1 picks or early 1st round picks get at least a second opportunity? I would say MOST of them do. JaMarcus didn't. And the reason he didn't is because of what he did with his 1st opportunity. I think that speaks to how lazy he probably was and how little work he put in to being a QB in the NFL. Case in point - Johnny Manziel may get a 2nd shot at the NFL if he ever goes through rehab.
All things considered including physical talent and possibilities, Bama Boy could have been great. Problem is, money never made anyone smarter. Johnny Time bomb was just a flash in the pan.
Lil Johnny was too Lil anyhow. Best to go out with drugs and hookers than dying on the field I suppose.
