Preseason #1 if we have both JR and Pellini. A loss of our DC will be looked upon as a shakup of our entire defense and could put us at 3, 4, or 5 instead of #1.
As hard as I've been on JR, he played great today on the road. This is the kind of performance I've been waiting on against a good, ranked team, away from home. That being said, he's gone...
It was a game management kinda game. What we've waiting for the entire season and he delivered big time. 2 TDs, no picks....exactly what I was hoping for.
JaMarcus has the most talent of any pure passer in the nation. Does he make the smartest decisions at times? He will be challenged at the next level against complicated schemes. By all accounts he is a tremendous person, a top talent and very good football player. He has all the physical attributes you want at the next level. Maybe they will coach him up at the next level. Say what you want but he has given us the best chance to win the last 2 years. I think the record says 22-4 as a starter. That's impressive!
If Jimbo leaves it would make sense for JR to go. Why come back your Sr. year to learn a new system? Quinn would go before him: http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061114/SPORTS0202/311140007/1001/SPORTS NFL scouts, however, have Russell all over their heads, according to NFL draft expert Mike Detillier of the M & D Draft Report. "I don't have a doubt in my mind that he will be the second quarterback picked, right after Brady Quinn (of Notre Dame)," Detillier said. "JaMarcus will be a middle-to-late first round pick. My belief is that this is his final year." http://www.footballsfuture.com/2007/prospects/qb.html Click here for NFL Draft News and Rumors 2007 NFL Draft QB Rankings By: Robert Davis | Updated 11/1 QB | RB | WR | OL | DL | LB | DB Quarterback Brady Quinn, Notre Dame Brian Brohm, Louisville Jr. Drew Stanton, Michigan St. Jamarcus Russell, LSU, Jr. Troy Smith, Ohio St. Chris Leak, Florida Jordan Palmer, UTEP Trent Edwards, Stanford Kevin Kolb, Houston Tyler Palko, Pitt http://www.houstonprofootball.com/draft/ JaMarcus Russell College: LSU Year: Junior Height: 6’5” Weight: 255 Birthday: August 9, 1985 Russell has proven that he can handle the adversity that comes with being a quarterback. He had a strong 2005 season despite playing most of it with ligament damage to his right wrist and leading a team that had to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (Russell housed 20 displaced friends and relatives in his apartment at one point, including his girlfriend’s grandfather, Fats Domino). Russell separated his left shoulder in the SEC championship game, and missed LSU’s bowl game. Tiger coach Les Miles declared the starting quarterback spot an open competition between Russell, Matt Flynn (offensive MVP of LSU’s bowl rout of Miami in Russell’s absence), and highly touted freshman Ryan Perrilloux. Rather than grouse about being disrespected and that he shouldn’t lose his position due to injury, Russell unselfishly went back to work, won the job, and has been outstanding so far this season. He possesses one of the strongest arms in college football, ideal size, and the ability to throw while on the move. He has broken his habit of staring down his intended receivers, which resulted in some interceptions last year. Like almost all quarterbacks Russell would benefit from another year of seasoning, but the fourth-year junior would likely be a first-round pick if he came out early.
JaMarcus will be the 2nd or 3rd QB taken in the draft...in the first round. Honestly, let's get ready for a rotation of Flynn and RP next season.
i hope he goes pro, but not because i do not like him, i think he is pretty good. not the best, but good enough. i think he might explode in the pros, with more learning and experience to go with that howitzer arm. he needs more decision-making practice. and i dont think he is too dumb to improve. i do think he is too dumb to have improved fast enough to have been the best qb in college, which he could have been. but i dont mean that as a criticism at all. i want him to go pro because it is a win-win for him and lsu and me, i will have fun watching him in the NFL sooner and lsu gets to give perriloux a shot. i do not know how to spell perriloux. if he had four years of experince, i think he would have been hands-down the best quarterback in america his senior year. i definitely am not the least bit worried about the situation after he leaves, and i dont think lsu will lose a step. today i kinda wondered what would happen if lsu brought perrilloux to mix it up, like florida does with tebow. i guess that is a topic for another thread.
