For the record, despite me pointing out his shortcomings, I was encouraged by what I saw Saturday night. No one can question his character, and I am very thankful he stuck it out at LSU, rather than transferring. He is a true Tiger in my book, and I feel like he is on the cusp of becoming what we need to have a very special season.
He is coached NOT to take unnecessary hits. We can't afford another QB out. What Lee needs to know is when to throw the ball away, even if it's on the back foot, instead of taking a sack. Other than that time when he was completely hemmed in, he did so.
I agree, and I didnt have too high of expectations for Lee either and he lived up to where I thought he would be. Matter of fact LSU did about exactly what most of thought they would do. As I have said before, I want to see J-Lee improve more for HIM, rather than us just winning the SEC & More. I want both, but after what this kid has given back to Tiger Nation, I want this for him!
I agree, but Id much rather see him step up, make a great throw(TD Pass) and take a smack, than throw the play away because he feels the pressure coming. He has to able to deliver completions and get knocked down doing it. Nothing there, then yes get rid of it, but if it is there, your job is to stand in there and deliver an accurate ball. Fearless! All great QB's need it!
Throwing a ball away instead of taking a sack is one thing, but sometimes you need to stand tall in the pocket for that extra split second, knowing you are about to take a hit, to give your receiver just a little more time to get open. I don't think it is an unnecessary hit when the result is a long completion or even a TD.
I don't think so either. But standing tall in a collapsing pocket with no open receivers is not a virtue and just gets quarterbacks hurt.
If he is scared to take a hit he better not show it. Defenses will hit him just to get him rattled. Some might even take a penalty and hit him late just to put it in his head they are coming. I hope we don't see that kind of dirty play but you never know in a big game. I think the more confident he gets the less we will see of that shrinking in the pocket.
I actually remember one or two instances the other night when he did throw it away. It was funny because we were sorta semi-celebrating when he did it.
I remember those as well. I remember thinking it was a smart thing he did. He was reading the situations and responding accordingly. Of course, he had a couple of plays that were not the best, but overall he played well.ldskule:
