I wonder if something happened to initiate that? I gotta be honest, I was excited when JJ got held out of the first few games because I thought, finally, finally, we can have a balanced offense. I don't feel real confident that we'd be undefeated at this point had JJ started from game 1. I don't feel real confident that we'd be playing for the NC. Know what, it kinda played out that I was right, that we were better off with a passing QB. There are other factors to consider, but we were finally a complete team utilizing all our weapons (WRs have been sorely underutilized in the past because our passing game sucked). And whether any of y'all want to admit it or not, there is MUCH reason to question Miles use of QBs. We've had shtty offense for a long while with some true BS miscues happening throughout. This season has been different out of necessity (JJ wasn't available early), with the stupidest thing happening so far being JJ intentionally grounding in the end zone for a safety (aside from the handling of QBs once JJ became eligible). I am less bent out of shape about Lee's three interceptions, because those happen. And three really isn't that bad. And Lee wasn't given a chance to play through his issues against Bama. Miles is not beyond reproach and this message board shouldn't be strictly to kiss the guy's ass. We're here to have opinions, and when I have an opinion and the rebuttal is, "Les gets paid millions, I don't have an opinion on what you said except that Miles knows more than you do," well, whoopdy freakin doo. I respect the guy who argued the benefits of having a mobile qb and a guy who doesn't turn the ball over. That's an opinion. "Miles has a lots of wins, so he must know what he's doing" is an opinion also, but doesn't really do much to further the discussion. It's a bonafide fact that Miles has presided over some dumb sht during his tenure at LSU. I'm still thrilled at his success here and glad he's on our sidelines. I realize he has lots of positive attributes. Hell, Saban had lots of positive attributes and I critized him as well. I also realize I couldn't handle their jobs. I'm thrilled that JJ has shown improvement. I realize that Bama will present a problem to any young QB because of their defensive sophistication. I think we'd be better off using both QBs, especially Lee's ability to make the D respect the pass. And unlike other teams, we ALSO have a legitimate mobile QB who has shown the ability to make big throws. Using both would be very hard on Saban's D. I wish that is what we'd do. But we probably won't, maybe Lee has been a f'in bum in school, and anyway who cares what I think.
Well said, I just don't want to look back on this season one day and think about the rotating quarterback position, and it's overshadowing what should be the real story, which is like you said, 13-0, SEC Champs, best defense in the game, best special teams in the game, and a stable of running backs that would make seabiscuit and secretariat nervous.
I haven't seen or participated in any other threads, though I noticed this one had a bunch of posts so figured it was the right one to post in. Part of Miles's job is to mind Lee's fee fees. He went into each recruit's house and told his parents "I'll be there for your son." Not to say he hasn't, and that academics aren't the reason for what transpired, and not that each player needs to be coddled. Tough love is acceptable. Forcing a kid to accept the responsibilties and consequences and realities of manhood is cool. If it is simply Miles's opinion that JJ is the better QB, I can definitely understand the way Lee looks on the sidelines. It is Miles's decision to make, but there are quite a few of us who question that decision. I question it based not only on this season but on Miles's history of handling JJ and Lee. Like I said, I'm glad to have Miles, I'm glad we're undefeated, but I'm concerned about the way QB is being handled and I'm afraid it could cost us. There are many benefits to a passing QB. Many of those benefits do get eaten up by Saban, BUT, we've got two capable if not exceptional QBs, which makes Saban's job harder. Sticking with JJ alone at best will leave us with a grind it out game that is basically a toss up at the end. And no, if Lee plays and throws a pick the majority won't be screaming for his head. Picks happen. I believe many of us want both anyway. No one is saying fire Miles. We just don't mind having a contrary opinion to Miles from time to time. We know you think daddy is perfect and I guess that's fine.
Says you. Anyway, I'm not discussing this with Miles, I'm discussing this with fellow passionate, interested fans.
If we go undefeated all that will go out the window for most of us (I'll probably drag it up again later, but I'm just a pain in the ass).
You and superfan don't get it. You think of these stories as one in the same. LSU .. 13-0 .. is great. The Lee story is a completely different story, has nothing to do with winning or losing ball games. Maybe when your kid gets benched for reasons unknown to you, replaced by someone of questionable superior ability, you'll feel differently. I doubt seriously you'll give a shiet if your kid's "team" goes 13-0, you'll be pissed that your kid did not get to participate for reasons that you suspect are unjust. Lee aint' my kid, but I can see the scenario. That's why I'm hoping there's a reasonble explanation for it outside of the B.S. that CLM has been puking to the media .. this "better chance to win B.S.". Tigertap ... Yes .. I can understand it. You could too if you would look at it as a human story, instead of LSU going 13-0. It doesn't have anything to do with LSU going 13-0. Just like Jack's story has nothing to do with LSU going 13-0 ... he got benched because of a coaches biases towards soccer-only guys. The guy who took his place lost the game for them. There is a "i told ya so" mentality, a "serves you right" response in all people with that regards. A person would have to be one insignificant dolt, lacking any and all self esteme not to have that response. Divorce it from this football season, and it'll make sense to you.
So based on what you are saying... not playing him becasue of his grades is cool. Not playing him because another guy is better is cool. J Lee not getting play time does not mean Miles is not "there for him." It means Lee isn't doing what he needs to do in Miles's eyes. If Lee has a problem with that pouting on the sidelines is not going to help. 13-0 destroys any basis to question a coaches personnel choices. Maybe if Miles played Lee against UGA we would be double plus SEC Champs. JJ has played well against Bama in the past. I have no reason to doubt he will play well against Bama in the future. Are you kidding me? You are talking about the same fan base that cheered when this guy got hurt. I don't think Miles is perfect, but I know he has a basis for making the personnel decisions he makes. When the team is dominant you don't question that. The problem is a significant portion of this fan base can never be satisfied and will invent issues where none exist. This is a prime example.
