Les should start sitting them for a series everytime they do it. Does not represent LSU in a positive light to America AND could potentially hurt the team with penalties or points. It's just not worth it. Save it for the NFL.
I haven't seen the new taunting pre-touchdown rule cost anyone a touchdown yet. Perhaps good coaching is still able to triumph over stupid, regardless of the new age we live in. Old school here.
I agree with the rest of you, the smack talk level was way to high last night. I do not doubt for a second though that it was going both ways and WV was guilty of getting their licks/snips in too. Their was alot of emotion in this game and it showed in some negative ways. I believe TM and the rest of the team will be watching a whole lot of film from this game. I am sure this among many other things will be addressed in a "firm and aggressive" manner.
Whatever keeps them motivated is fine with me as long as fights aren't breaking out or costing us numerous penalties. Always been apart of the game and not going to change.
Steadman Bailey did a short touchdown dance without getting flagged, so perhaps the new touchdown-revoking celebration rule is being reasonably enforced.
Plus we have Big Sam hugging refs to calm the situation down. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJ724L-j-ew]LSU Montgomery Hugs a Ref - YouTube[/ame]
It was apparent that something more was the cause behind this. I haven't seen LSU's defense act like that all year. I don't know if it's bad blood, if they read something WVU said, or what. But it was clear something was up all game. Combine that with all the bad calls and tons of holding WVU was doing and I'm sure the players were frustrated and that caused them to mouth off even more. WVU wasn't innocent either though. My only concern is with Mathieu. He's the leader on defense and shouldn't be setting that type of example for the rest. He didn't do it just a little, he did it nearly every down. Miles and Chief need to clamp down on that.
Glad I'm not the only one disappointed with all the trash talking. I kept thinking how much it reminded me of Miami in the 80's and how much I hated them. Definitely time to dial it back a notch. I thought it really made LSU look bad. Hopefully Miles will address the issue.
X 3! There is nothing more classy & stylish than to show your superiority on the field, then extend your hand to the guy you just turfed. Figure it out, TM7! You prove your skills between the whistles, then you (occasionally) show real class by avoiding the trash talk & pulling the player up. The camera LOVE'S that stuff! There are a ton of flags for Unsportsmanlike Conduct, but none for Sportsmanship. And when ranked #1, #2, #3 etc., the entire football world is watching. LSU can either be looked upon as a gang of (deeply talented) thugs, or a deserving team of (deeply talented) athletes.
Guys, while the trash talking was a bit over the top last night, I don't mind it. I love to see the passion that comes from it. Honestly, it's a game, and it's supposed to be fun. Tyrann was jawing constantly during the game and humble as all heck on College Gameday Final when Fowler interviewed him. Can the guys be construed as thugs? I guess. But let's not be too stuffy, fellas. My dad was a coach for 40 years, and he loved Tyrann crossing his arms for the camera. That's pure swagger. Losers don't have swag. Oh, and Big Sam hugging the ref was hilarious! I really love this team and their passion.
