Joe Cullen has now sued Ole Miss for wrongful termination regarding his public drunkeness charge in a Subway restaurant in Oxford. Orgeron's first staff has so far managed to provide Ole Miss with a DWI on a major recruiting weekend; a public drunkeness charge at a Subway sandwich shop of all places; two staff firings; several staff resignations; and now a lawsuit against Ole Miss for wrongful termination. All this within the 1st 4 months of Orgeron's hiring as head coach. The good publicity just keeps on coming for Orgeron and Company. Ole Miss fans and boosters must be having some questions about Orgeron at this point. See link. http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050322/SPORTS030103/503220369
Think about what student athletes do and get away with, like cheating, rape, drugs, assault charges, etc (not necessarily at Ole Miss, but at colleges and universities around the country). Then, this coach is charged with public intoxication at Subway and he is fired (depending on who you believe, Cullen and his lawyer or the Ole Miss Chancellor). Something is strange about this paradox. While we don't know the facts (I mean, how do you get arrested for public drunkedness in a Subway...oh, that's right, it's Oxford, Mississippi), even if he is found guilty (Again, it's Oxford...is the jury (judge) rigged. If it wasn't before, it is now. The judge is an Ole Miss alum...(just kidding)), the firing and public lashing is way out of proportion. Kinda like cutting your hand off if you are caught stealing a loaf of bread. I know, a university or a company has the right to fire you. I honor that right; however, contempt prior to investigation is ludicrous at best and expensive and damaging at worst if handled improperly. Think about what most head coaches give as a statement when one of their athletes are arrested: "We reserve judgment until we get the facts and a determination is made in the case. We'll allow due process to run its course." Guess it depends on your value to the team, college, or company. That's how the scales of justice operate sometimes.
Not taking up for coach O as the fans here so fondly dubbed him, :dis: BUT this would have happened at OLE PISS anyway. it's still lefire: nothing on God's green earth can change that fact.
You'd think so, but I have yet to find an Ole Miss football fan who wants CEO's head on a stick. They are too enamored with him because he is going to 'steal La's talent' from LSU...
