i dont think we were in the top 20 as much as you think. at least two of the 4 tournament runs you mentioned were from unranked teams

the best players on dale's teams were frequently not from La.---shaq, cj, roberts, hamminck, john williams, henderson (i think), probably others.

    I concede your point.
I have to tip my hat to you, I see where your coming from.
I have admitted that Kentucky is the only game I watched and I did watch
    it until the end.
I haven't listened to any of the games but I check the threads pretty often
and I've seen turnovers one of the things listed other than the D.

Well, it sounds like I was right about the recruiting issue in some earlier posts here, what can U say about the coaching issue and defense?
I use to like Bradys teams because they use to play good defense!

Sounds alot like Brady is recruiting the same talent he used at Samford if you
ask me, with the exeption of Brandon Bass and maybe Big Baby lately.

I just don't keep up with the team like I use too, ESPN fullcourt and every game I could get I watched.
Last year and the beginning of this year has left a bad taste in my mouth.
The whole Lloreda fiasco last year, what can U say?

i agree. i expect to see problems on the offensive side early in the year, especially with young players (tack, bass, and davis are very young dont forget). takes a while to learn how to effectively get the ball to the post and for the post player to receive it-especially if they weren't coached well in high school. btw, i still think this is a major hassle with bigtime recruits--they arent coached well, just get by on talent.

WHERE's THE D? i'm still hoping they learn to have defensive intensity consistently. i think its because there is no senior leadership. again, it should be hud, but hes not a vocal leader and thats what we need.

Since basketball is actually being spoken about here, some thoughts and some actual facts that I have checked into:

    Depth:

Many are complaining that a deep bench is critical to being good or a team being coached correctly. According to the SEC stats at SEC.org as of yesterday:

LSU Starting 5- AVG Minutes per game- 32.6
Alabama Starting 5- AVG Minutes per game- 31.9

Against lowly Auburn, Alabama (leading the west) had no bench points. Anyone remember who the 6th, 7th or 8th player was on UCONN last year? You remember the dominance of Okafor, Gordon and Brown. By the way, their starters averaged 29.8 minutes a game.

Thomas and Temple were brought in as role players and were not ready for the SEC. They are dressing out and practicing. They will be ready if we have injuries and are pressed into having to play of which I hope is not the case this late in the season.

    Point Guard:

Our talent against Alabama is exactly the same except the point guard position. Ronald Steele is the real deal. Even as I say that, Tack is leading the conference in assists. Unfortunately he is 2nd in the league in turnovers.

For us to have any success, Tack must play like a point guard and not a 2 guard. He just doesn't get it.

    LSU's Rich Basketball history:

LSU's winning percentage since 1908 is 56.8%. Dale Brown was 59.8%. Brady is mired in the same mediocrity at 56.8%. Brown and Brady have almost the exact same records through 7 years as coach at LSU. Each had an SEC championship and a sweet 16. Later on in his career, Dale couldn't even get to the final 4 with SHAQ, CJ and Stanley Roberts on the same team. In looking at that, I find that fact mind boggling and a joke to most in the basketball community.

I will not question those who want Brady out for whatever reasons you might have. Just thought I would share some information for yall to talk about.

You hit the nail on the head there Jeff. That is the biggest issue I have with all of the bashers here. Granted, Brady has not shown that he will be the coach to take LSU to the promised land, but, LSU's basketball history is average at best and, more accurately, mediocre. Aside from the 81 team (Macklin, Cook, Martin, et al, we were always unranked. The 86 final four team was an absolute fluke. It was a hell of a ride and I enjoyed it immensely, but that group overachieved at tournament time. Once they got to the semis, it was clear they were out of their league. If people want to shoot for the stars wish for a top tier team, fine. I'm all for it. But don't act like we should "return" to an elite status. We were never there.

I was going by the fact that LSU had been to 10 straight ncaa's, I think only North Carolina and Georgetown had matched that at the time. Plus the fact of 2 final fours and 2 final eights and a couple of sec championships .
