I don't know if I would pass judgment on someone because of one quarter of play. What kind of defenses has he produced over the length of his career? That is the question we should be asking. What is his long-time track record? Does he have consistently good defenses?
Happy to see Jefferson get a chance, saying that he wasnt ready, was a bit misguided. Im not the coach, but he could have been referring to knowing the playbook. The kid has a great arm, so does Lee, but Jefferson goes through his progressions and makes better decisions. Lee will play in the future no doubt, but Jefferson should go the rest of the way. Then Lee will be the back up and he will be the most popular QB on the team.:hihi:
JJ looked great on his first drive, then Ole Miss adjusted their defense and he stalled. No negatives on JJ, he just needs to learn the offense during the off season and be ready for next season. He showed poise and a lot of talent. He is not ready to lead the team but he has the tools he just needs reps and time with the play book.
I wonder if the whole JJ isn't ready bullshyt was because Miles knew he was and if JJ came in earlier Lee would've saw the writings on the wall and transferred because he never would've played again at LSU except maybe on his senior night ionno.Imagine if JJ would've been getting half of the snaps that Beer Pong Champ got.
I'd like to see what the offense can do with him taking 100% of the snaps. I think he did really well in his first series because Ole Miss...on top of being the worst pass defense in the league...was expecting run all the way. Then they adjusted to the pass when they realized it was too late for us to go back to the run because we needed to score in a hurry. JJ didn't fare so well then, but it's hard to complete passes when you can't run the ball. He's not Drew Brees...:rolleye33: How will JJ do when a defense is looking for both run AND pass? We'll find out against Arkansas and, if he does well there, in the bowl game. And to the poster that said we're starting next year right where we started this year with no QB's with experience...you're wrong my friend. RP only started two games in his backup career and everyone proclaimed him "experienced". By the time this season ends, JJ will have just as much experience and our backup (Lee) has over half a season of starts under his belt. QB will be much improved next year, count on it.
Jefferson should be the starter here on out if they want to somewhat save this season and possibly end as a top 25 team.
You may be correct but RP didn't return this year so we don't really know if him starting those two games was enough experience do we? I would say most likely not. And Lees experience last year certainly hasn't seem to bode well for him this year. It takes more PT than these guys have been getting to make them experienced. When LSU gets up big the backup guy needs playing time.
When Jefferson got some relatively substantial playing time last week, Miles mentioned that things had really started to click for him, which is why he was getting more snaps. Jordan showed that he has made a lot of improvement through the course of the season. He looked a lot better than I was expecting, and he showed some leadership which Lee hasn't done much of this season. I don't know whether Lee will grow into a leader or not, but at this point he doesn't have "it".
Jefferson looked noticably more poised/comfotable on the field, which I think is attributed to his ability to make plays with his legs when a play breaks down. He also had better timing than I thought he would. He made some bad throws but that is to be expected. He also hangs in the pocket longer than I thought, given his age and athletic ability I was anticpating him running too soon at times but that was not the case, and at some points he hung in the pocket too long. He showed a lot to be excited about. For a frustrating year, maybe a good performance by JJ at Arky and in the bowl will be cause for some optimism this offseason....lets hope so anyway because there is certainly not alot of optimism surrounding the direction of this program.
A little perspective for everyone already crowning JJ These are just a few of the posts from after the Auburn game. Lee struggled a bit, then when the strater (Hatch) went down, he stepped up big-time. Does any of this sound farmiliar? Lee vs Auburn 11/22 (50%) 182 yds 2 TD 1 pick Jefferson yesterday 10/20 (50%) 120 yds TD 1 pick Everyone back off a little and wait to see what happens. We have seen NOWHERE near enough of this kid to be abe to proclaim him the runaway starter.
