Re: J MAR All throughout High School and in the Mobile area he is known as "J-Rock". Sounds much better than gay "Jmar". :hihi:
Re: J MAR People always forget that almost all of the great QB's, including the Manning's, weren't great when they first started out. People only remember their last year. But to say that JR (not J MAR) has only marginally developed is ridiculous. He has shown a lot of poise and confidence in tough situations, and has made a lot of difficult plays other QB's can't. He looked 10 times better than golden boy Leak has. Yes he has a strong arm, but some of the best passes he threw against Florida were touch passes like the TD to Brazell. He is only going to get better and if we can stop the holding penalties and other long yardage situations, things look bright. Fisher knows how to develop QB's and has done a good job so far.
Re: J MAR are you sure he has developed all that much? in his first game, Oregon St. last year, he had 2 TDs, 0 INTs and 0 fumbles. his passing % is up, but in the end that means nothing. its all TDs and turnovers.
Re: J MAR No, it's not all TDs & turnovers. Last year, JR was a play maker but he was a poor QB - no ability to check off at the line, read defenses, manage time or be a leader. The only thing he could do was the 2-minute offense because that allowed him to make plays without thinking - not the mark of good QB. This year is JR's first year as a real QB. He's doing everything we need him to do as a QB, he just isn't great at it yet. He's good right now, and he will continue to get better.
Re: J MAR cmon. you'd prefer JR to throw 25-30 for 400 yds 0 TDs and 3 INTs than 9-30 3 TDs and 0 INTs?
Re: J MAR That's a hard one. The 3 INT's look bad, but how many points would we score if he had 400 yards passing. Then again, 21 points off of 9 completed passes is also very nice. I don't know. Not enough info.
Re: J MAR Given the choice, I'd choose having Russell on the field over Flynn or RP any day. (considering RP has no college experience)
I think JR has played good and there is no doubt he will continue to develop. There is no substitute for game experience. The more you play the more comfortable you feel. However it depends alot on offensive line play as to JR play. Just like it does for Chris Leak and every other QB. I dont care how good a qb you are if you are under siege and as soon as you get back to set your feet you have 2 to 3 people coming you are not going to succeed unless you have alot of fran tarkington in you. One of the problems i do see with JR is he misses some reads and locks onto his receiver from the beginning of the play. One thing i dont think Offensive Co-ordinators in the SEC have done as well as they should is develop their game plans to counteract these max blitzes being used by all the SEC teams now. They still try to drop back and pick them up and dont implement quick hitting decision type plays. I call it the old TE pop pass or the quick in route that tests the cushion given by Blitzing teams . The pop pass is pretty much a forgotten play in the new offenses. TE are mainly just blockers with an occasional pass. In the glory days of the cowboys passing to the TE was one of their best plays. While they were busy doubling michael Troy used to make a living with the 8 yard Jay Novacek pass.
