taken ahead of Brady Quinn huh.............so will JR be in New York for the Heisman ceremony as well? JR is good, but I am not sure he is the best in the nation this year, which is what I would consider Brady Quinn (especially over Troy Smith).

Heisman Trophies don't equate to success in the NFL as a quarterback. Once JR starts doing individual workouts for scouts his stock will really skyrocket.

Heisman trophies usually equate to horrible NFL careers and blown draft choices. Of course you've heard of the term "coach killers", Heisman trophy winners are often time "GM killers".

Found this interesting tidbit on Akili Smith. No, he didn't win the Heisman but he kept the Bengals in ruinations for 4 more years.

"Prior to his drafting there was a huge effort by the New Orleans Saints head coach Mike Ditka and management to get the Bengals' high draft position so the Saints could get Ricky Williams. The final offer, which was refused by the Bengals management, was for 9 draft picks, several extra in this year as well as many in the next year. Instead of taking the trade, the Bengals stuck with their initial decision to draft Smith, who, while undeniably athletic -- he had also played some professional baseball -- was still largely unproven, having only impressed at the college level for one season."

Two things I take from that. The GM for the Bengals should have been castrated and made to bleed to death, but slowly. Secondly, Mike Ditka should been forced to watch said bloodletting, only to be beaten to death with a blunt instrument a couple of hours later.

Yeah. He's a regular Ron Powlus. It's easy to win a Heisman when the media campaign begins as soon as he steps on campus. Show me some Quinn victories in games against real teams. Let's put it another way. Would you prefer Quinn as LSU's starter or JaMarcus?

you guys all know I am a big JR supporter, but I think he is a little behind Quinn when it comes to decision making in the pocket. JR reminds me a lot of Rohan, ecxept a better arm. As for Heismans and NFL success, it is true there are more busts then stars, but do not forget the likes of Staubach, Palmer, and most likely Leinart - I would also say Testaverda and Flutie had good NFL careers.

Flutie had a few good years when he was givne a chance. For the most part he was a back up, so yeah, I guess you cant really say as whole that he had a good career.

Flutie did about as well as any 5' 7" QB could do. He was pretty amazing to watch. He was the ultimate competitor.

The fact that you are qualifying Flutie's success based on his height tells me that he wasn't a great player.

If JR comes out and doesn't get arrested or anything he'll be the 1st QB taken in the draft. His physical skills are too impressive.

As far as JR and Davey go, JR's arm is much more impressive than Davey's. Davey was great and everything but his arm, and most everyone else's NFL or college, don't match up to JR's.
