    Ok football knowers.....

I was watching Burrow take about 3/4 of his snaps under center today. Until the 4Q, when he was lining up shotgun and really performing well.

Why is taking the snap under center still a thing? If the QB is going to run backwards to either hand off or throw a pass anyway, why not shotgun every time?

    I'll hang up and listen.

The I formation hasn't gone completely out of style yet, especially in the NFL. Both the Saints and the Bucs ran it a few times today.

I believe the snap cuts time off of play action and can set you up for different drops (e.g. 3 step versus 7 step drop). I don’t know of any other reason why.

It tends to work better in a lot of run and short yardage situations. Under center the lineman don't have to hold their blocks quite as long for the running back to get a couple of yards. App State hadn't been under center in over a decade until last year.
Defensive penetration cost us dearly on fourth and short quite a bit.
Our crowd went nuts when the QB stepped up there.
