Miles does all of the following: (1) turns over the keys to the offense to the OC; (2) refrains from micro-managing the game-planning and the play-calling; (3) allows the OC to decide which, if any, of the current position coaches will be retained and to hire the replacements for those who aren't retained, subject to reasonable oversight by Miles; and (3) subject to consultation with Miles, the OC will have the final authority to decide who the starters will be by utilizing a strictly Darwinian process (survival of the fittest), regardless of how long any player has been in the program.
You do realize LSU plays more freshmen than just about any team in the conference? Miles myth #19, 849: Miles only plays seniors.
I never said Miles only plays seniors, but the new OC still has to be given the final authority to decide who the starters will be even though, at least early-on in the new OC's first year, Miles will know the players better than the new OC will. Incidentally, Miles is not very effective at player development, which is more important than recruiting is. This is among Miles' biggest deficits.
Haha, signed NFLSU. Miles' teams in the last 5 years haven't developed a QB, but come on...that's painting with a gargantuan brush, dude. And FWIW, I think Cameron is a good way to go since he's respected by Miles due to their prior connections. The issue with Stud replacing Krags last minute wouldn't allow Miles to trust, because Stud wasn't the intention as OC...Krags was. But that didn't work out. I'm thinking with Cameron, it will be much better.
It is true that many of Miles' players have made it into the NFL, but surely you know that the NFL's scouts have been largely critical of their general lack of readiness to play professional football.
Yep, players never develop. Since Les has been here, 44 players have been drafted into the NFL, many more UDFA. This is one of the better things Les and this staff has done, many of the players are more Pro ready, this is coming from Pro coaches and Pro scouts. This years class looks to have around a dozen kids drafted and with close to 20 having a chance getting into a Pro camp.
