Do you really consider the AP a legitimate poll?

    V Young is kissing glass.

Tubby is preparing to eat salad.

And Nick Saban is giving praise to the All Powerfull LSU fan in Heaven.

It's very widely recognized, which gives USC more recognition than Auburn. Currently, the only "legitimate" poll is the BCS.

In 2003, the AP agreed and signed on to be part of the whole BCS formula that would declare one national champion in college football (since the NCAA doesn't). To me, that rendered the AP Poll alone useless after the final game was played because the combined formula is what mattered. The AP decided their poll would help the BCS decide one true champ and that's what the AP wanted. Anyway, they've broken that agreement now. So in their eyes, the AP is still relevant. But alas, they must live with their mistake and should claim LSU the 2003 champions because LSU in a way were also the AP champs. Their poll really honored two champions that year when you analyze it. Isn't that what they were trying to avoid?

At least Tubby can go home and eat a nice family-sized salad out of his trophy and use his Salad-Shooter that he got for Christmas . What can Pete do with his ugly-ass AP trophies besides use them for bookends?

If not do you forfeit your '58 MNC?

    Proud Tiger,
There were many polls that declared LSU National Champions in 1958. So basically, as an LSU fan you could say the AP is a joke and not have to forfeit any MNC.

But that's not the point. The point is that the AP vote was considered legit for many years and was important to naming a so-called National Champion. But when the BCS agreement was made and the crystal football arrived, it really made all other polls irrelevant after the last game was played. That's what it was designed to do. The AP was big when there was nothing else, now it's not as big of a deal at the end of the season.

I agree for the most part. But the AP is still a well known poll and whoever wins it will always claim at least to be co-MNC (if different from the BCS winner). If LSU had gone undefeated this year, didn't get in the Rose Bowl but won the AP would you have said the AP didn't mean anything. Bottomline, to me, is that until there is a playoff system in Div. !A football, there is going to continue to be controversy,
