He wasn't talking about the entire season. He was talking about the games since Williams has shown to be productive and that really goes back to the UK game, as he was injured and had a steep learning curve before that game. In the games since UK he has had the most carries in everyone of them except for tieing with Hester in the Bama game.
Yes, I understood what he meant and I wasn't positive that's why I said, "I don't think so". I hadn't looked at "By game" stats but remembered being under the same impression as he is. Obviously I was wrong. I just threw in the total carries for conversation. Should have made a distinction in my post.
What ever happened to Charles Scott? He was coming along pretty good early in the year then disappeared. Has he been injured?
One thing - our backs seem to be looking better each game. Anyone know what KW weight is? Because he looks like he is in way better shape than he was at the beggining of the season.
My opinion on why Keiland is used more in the first half is because Miles likes to be show that we can run early in the game. By the second half, the other team is respecting it more and we can use different backs that present us with some other options - like better blocking, receiving etc. Personally, when I look at Keiland's yards I see alot of them that come with the help of very good Oline performances - like his touchdown run in the Ark game which was wide open. I haven't been real impressed by his ability to break through the line with small holes.
K. Williams 13 68 A. Broussard 8 37 J. Hester 6 18 J. Vincent 2 6 Most of Williams carries came in the first half. Certainly a host of possibilities as to why he saw limited action in the second half, injury, blocking skills, reception skills, etc. I do remember being puzzled in the second half when I saw Vincent and Broussard getting the ball. Miles seems to be very conservative when it comes to feeling out his backs through the game. Not sure how a back can establish himself though, if he runs well, scores, and then plays sparingly after that. I have to assume it was for one of the reasons listed above that he was replaced. We all know that Miles isn't going to descibe injuries so perhaps he was just protecting the ankle. High ankle sprains are very painful and tend to be nagging injuries without rest. I suspect the month off will serve us well and allow all the nicks to heal. Look for K.Williams coming out party in the Bowl game.
You can't discount the impact missing all of that practice had on Keiland's use early in the season, and I'm directing this thread to you, Red, in part b/c I'm wondering what's been done to prevent that insane clearinghouse issue (which the other 118 or so Div I teams somehow avoided) from biting us in the arse again. I'd (joemcknight) love to (joemcknight) see KW more (joemcknight) in 2007 (joemcknight), but I also hope/expect (joemcknight) others to get into the mix as well, be they (joemcknight) true freshmen (joemcknight) or not. Let's say that, to pick a name out of the air, Joe McKnight signs on the dotted line next year and doesn't miss time like KW did...does CLM put him in early and often? Kids love going to 'SC because Pete Carroll has the guts to play the best, regardless of how young they are. I'd hate to see CLM develop a rep for hesitating to pull the trigger in similar situations, though one has to take note of the fact that every single "big name" offensive true freshman didn't see the field in the Auburn game.
It's my understanding that Keiland had some outstanding tuition payments that held up the process. This wouldn't apply to McNight. :thumb:
You hit the nail of the head. No back looked good early on because the OL wasnt making ANY holes. Lately they are starting to consistently make holes. No back will get yards if there arent any holes to run through. Keiland doesnt have great open field moves, but none of our backs really have shown that ability. LSU RBs are more smash mouth. Keiland appears to be the best combo of speed and power in comparison to the other backs. All he needs is the oppertunity and the holes. He and Scott are similar but Keiland is faster. I too wonder if big time freshman will start to look past LSU because of the lack of PT. Im all for the best player getting the majority of snaps, despite classification. IMO Keiland is clearly our best back right now. He should get the carries in both the first and second half of the bowl game. Ive alwasy thought LSU attempts to run too much early on. To me it appears our line is more geared to pass block. Ive mentioned before I feel LSU does better when we establish the pass first, then run when the opposing D is playing more honest. LSU doesnt do as well when we try to run first. At least IMO.
