Kent State responds to LSU game day sign mocking massacre

I read this last night and since then I've been trying to think about a game where I've rooted against LSU—can't come up with one outside of our games.

You know my main "rival" is UT. Yet, I don't find myself rooting against UT in games and really don't have much of an emotional response when they lose.

In fact, the only team I can think of that elicits any kind of emotional response in a loss is UGA. I'd tell a UF fan "sorry about that game over the weekend" if they lost. UGA? They might get an "oh well."

I've enjoyed a few chuckles reading her thoughts on both...

 

Freedom of speech?

How often is that going to be misused? This is not a case of the government interfering or prohibiting people from voicing concerns.

20K students in the stands singing vulgarities probably falls under the obscenity law—again, something NOT protected by the first amendment.

 

I can't believe the Dekes haven't changed in 50 years!!!!! Must be a lot of inbreeding (legacies) going on.

 

Virtually nothing offends me. I believe in freedom of speech 100% but this is a school sanctioned fraternity on campus representing the school and the fanbase. Administration should certainly get involved in a case like this and obviously they did.

 

Yea that's pretty messed up...

 

Man what's the shelf life on tragedies before you can make fun of them? I mean, comedians make fun of everything, had any one of them said that would there be a backlash?

 

I join in condemning the sign. I could care less about political correctness, but the sign is stupid and distasteful, to say the least. An embarrassment.

 

You're clearly not up on your student section chants. It's now "Suck that tiger's pee pee, female dog.".

 

This is what should resonate, sadly it is overlooked by so many.

 

why is it an embarrassment?
they should just move on from it
that massacre happened years ago
none of the students were around then
it didnt affect any of the current students
kent st should get over it....
