You guys are going to have to beat us using a more of a traditional attack, I dont see that up tempo attack hurting as much as some duck fans believe

The big thing IMO is the defense wrapping up and tackling the motherphukking ballcarrier. Last year's AU game we couldn't tackle for sh*t.

I really don't think Oregon can win in the trenches, they'll have to rely on the "gimmick" and "misdirection" plays. Individual speed, game speed, and team speed are all different things. Sure, your tailback runs a 4.4, so does all of our DB's.

Our big thing will be can we tackle? We can hit, but can we wrap up? Somewhere I thought maybe we lost the fundamentals of tackling.

Me too! It's like "Duck, petuooey". There needs to be a spitting on the ground emoticon for Cliff to use, when addressing Ducks.

I think way too much credit to Oregon's success is laid upon the fast tempo, and not enough is credited to the great execution and great players on Oregon's team.

What is impressive about Oregon's offense is not how fast they execute, its how well they execute in that same amount of time. They won the battle of turnovers all season last year despite running a hurried up / fast pace. Heck, the QB only threw 9 INTs all season.

I am not sure what you mean by Traditional Attack. If you think Oregon should line up and run it up the gut like you say your team will likely do, then you're incorrect on what Oregon should do. Again, I think you are focusing too much on the SPEED instead of the SCHEME and EXECUTION.

Oregon plays a very wide spread offense to create space for 1v1 attacks. You cannot line up 8 guys in the box if your D is spread across the field. Its much easier for LMJ, Barner, etcetera to beat / run past or around 1 or 2 guys then try to power through 8 in the box.

What will be critical for LSU's Defense is two-fold. 1. Tackling (especially in open space). 2. Getting Penetration (see Fairley).

Oregon's players are hand picked for this system. They won 12 games last year with this system. Its safe to say they will use it against LSU on the Sept. 3rd. :D

This is exactly correct. It is why Oregon beats teams badly (teams that do not tackle well individually). Its also how great teams beat Oregon - they get penetration and they tackle in space.

Getting penetration shouldn't be a problem for LSU's defense. Look at the depth chart. Those boys are deeeep.....and they're nasty. Not too often you see a pair of starting ends that run high 4.5's or 4.6's. Not to mention the beasts on the interior. LSU isn't called "D Line U" for nothing, you know.

Like I said, wrapping up with a sound, fundamental tackle will be key for this defense. We can hit. We can straight up knock your d*ck in the dirt, but how disciplined is this team? I've seen some sorry ass excuses for tackling the last couple of seasons. Fundamentals.

Exactly right again. I forgot about the disciplined aspect. The Defense MUST have confidence in their teammates to hold ground for their "area" / spot on the field. Over pursuing the ball gets a lot of aggressive defenses in trouble against Oregon due to the way they hide and fake hand offs / read the Defense.

I am expecting LSU to be more than ready. Though I felt the same way 13 times last year, too. LSU can be prepared for 6 months, but its actually executing it in a game as opposed to practice that is the difference. The same goes for Oregon's Offense. They have a lot of new kids on the line as well as new receivers. Oregon could easily struggle due to a lack of experience being that there are new kids playing in Game 1 of the season.

I can't wait for this game. Wish I had tickets. Dallas is only a four hour drive for me, I'm thinking of going just to hang out.
