He wasn't…I heard he was being told that another good season at OT could bump him up to a top draft pick and he wasn't there yet. With Turner breing strictly a guard the risk didn't outweigh the reward for staying another year. Top OT can bring in significantly more money.
Well hopefully he will be blocking for a 1,500-2,000 yard Leonard Fournette. If we can accomplish that, he'll see himself in the top half of the 1st round. Given the info by LSUDad on him being recruited as a guard, then it all makes sense to stick it out so he can make top dollar as a LT.
Most times yes. Then you get to players like former LSU player Alan Faneca, he was an OG making great money, when they needed a yard, he got you that yard. Remember when Kevin Mawae signed with the Jets, he was awarded the highest salary ever at that time to an offensive center. An they will tell you that he was worth every cent.
Depends on exactly what you're asking. If you asking about rookie salaries, then it will just depend on where you end up. For instance, if a guard is drafted 5th overall, he will make more money than a left tackle who is 6th overall. The rookie pay scale is set ahead of time, making it much easier for teams to sign their picks. If you're talking about franchise tags, all offensive linemen are grouped together, so a guard or tackle being franchised will make the exact same money. I think the disparity used to be greater between tackles and guards in the past. That difference does appear to be shrinking a bit. Teams are realizing that pressure up the middle against your star QB isn't the best thing. Here is the state of pay before the 2012 season (as you can see, if you're an elite guard, you will get paid as well as the best left tackles): Guards 1. Carl Nicks, Buccaneers – $12,500,000 2. Davin Joseph, Buccaneers – $9,500,000 3. Chris Snee, Giants – $7,900,000 4. Logan Mankins, Patriots – $7,000,000 5. Marshall Yanda, Ravens – $6,500,000 6. Uche Nwaneri, Jaguars – $4,191,666 7. Harvey Dahl, Rams – $4,000,000 8. Todd Herremans, Eagles – $3,800,000 9. Jahri Evans, Saints – $3,600,000 10. Chris Kuper, Broncos – $3,500,000 Tackles 1. Jake Long, Dolphins – $11,200,000 2. Trent Williams, Redskins – $11,000,000 3. Joe Thomas, Browns – $10,500,000 4. Jason Smith, Rams – $10,000,000 5. Jordan Gross, Panthers – $9,500,000 6. Jason Peters, Eagles – $8,250,000 7. Michael Roos, Titans – $7,300,000 8. Andre Smith, Bengals – $6,508,000 9. David Stewart, Titans – $6,200,000 10. Donald Penn, Buccaneers – $5,900,000
That's insane. The Saints made Evans the highest paid guard in league history with that 3.6 just 5 years ago, and its been topped 8 times already?
