Depends on what kind of safety the first team looking for one needs. If they want a more coverage-oriented safety, and Nelson has a good combine, I can see him going ahead of LaRon in that reguard.

LaRon has made GREAT strides defending the pass and I think he did himself justice by staying in Pellini's defense for his last year.

That said, I still don't believe Nelson goes ahead of LaRon in the draft as long as LaRon doesn't completely blow it at the combine.

Landry is a Safety in the mold of a Ronnie Lott, Lawyer Milloy and Rodney Harrison--more than capable of pass coverage but hits like a linebacker! ...now tell me, WHAT team in their right mind WOULDN'T want a player like that????

Nelson is more of a coverage safety and the only thing he may have over LaRon is that Nelson is probably faster and more fluid in his breaks to turn around and run straight back. ... i.e. Nelson can hide his mistakes better because he has the speed to make up for a bad/wrong read.

I dont see Nelson having a better workout than Laron. Laron is stronger, and FASTER!!! He runs a 4.4-40!!

That's a great assessment of both safeties, they're both gonna be makin big bucks soon. Nelson from what i hear can also play CB which goes along with the pass coverage skills you mentioned.

But one thing i noticed baout Landry is that he always has a knack for knowing where the ball is. He has made some clutch INT's in his career and seems like everytime there's a tipped ball he's there for the INT. He really is a playmaker and the NFL guys know that is not something you can teach to someone so they'd better draft him early before he gets away. You know he'll do well in the NFL, he led the 03 Tigers in tackles as a freshman so that says a lot about him. and his pass coverage has been a lot better, he played great in the Arky game, but granted that was against Casey Dick

The common comparisons Ive seen are Nelson=Ed Reed and Landry=Bryan Dawkins/Troy Polomalu. Basically it depends on what the team needs in a safety. I am a homer and somewhat biased but I will take Landry and his abilites (intelligent and very good at all aspects of being a safety) for four years over Nelson (not so intelligent very good in coverage). I dont believe you will be disapointed with either choice, however.

ESPN has Laron clocked at 4.49 ....and 4.43 for Nelson.
