Pac10 = Conference of Champions Baseball: Back to Back Baseball titles Basketball: Consecutive Final 4 appearances Football: Two of the last three Heisman trophy winners, 3 of the last 5, Preseason #1 in '07, Top pound for pound conference in '07 via Kirk Herbstreet. Most DivI Nation Championships oWned
Final AP football poll: ONE Pac 10 team, Two Big East, Three Big 10....*Drum roll* Three SEC and *coughing- a National Champion* Hell, the WAC had as many top ten teams as the Pac. Wanna count to top 25?? Just gets worse. 50% of our conference was in and only 30% of the Pac which has two less teams. You still believe dat chit?? :hihi:
Oh, we have "Back to back" baseball titles too. Of USC's last 6, five were in the 70's our 5 were in the nineties. :thumb:
Ah, another pi$$ing contest about titles. I wondered how long it would take this thread to appear on this forum. I was emailed a link last Tuesday evening and looked over it the following morning. It wasn't to this forum, but this one from another LSU forum you guys are undoubtably familiar with. I'm glad to see some cooler heads prevailing over here...those comments really got under the skin of a few of your compadre's on that other site.
I bet 1-2 has happened more over the course of the last 14 years than any other combination such as 1-3, 2-3, 2-5, 2-11. Right? The point is, no team is bettter than 4-1 to make the MNC game and that's generous. Therefore, there is no starting position that will put you in a better position to make the MNC game. To this end, you may as well start at the top, that way, you just have to hold everyone off instead of leapfrogging people to get there. You guys are really reading too much into everyone picking us #2. I for one am thrilled, but not as thrilled as if we were #1.
7Heismans=Population Supported Media Bias Pac10=Conference of Champions (in water polo) Do your homework junior and you'll quickly see which conference is superior to your second-tier Pac-10. Don't forget to check attendance, women's sports, and appearances in bowl games, CWS, Final Fours, etc. Please feel free to "spin" your argument however possible but in the end, you'll still be looking up at the SEC! I'll give you one where you can probably beat us...our football officiating really sucks. (You probably know that since they helped you guys win a game a few years back.)
There are good reasons why, in this imperfect college football world in which we live, arguments like this get so heated. Phil Steele made a good point regarding PAC-10 strength of schedule. His take is, since the PAC-10 plays a true round-robin conference schedule, PAC-10 teams have "tougher" schedules than, say, SEC teams. Think about it: is playing 9 of 12 games in-conference in a conference that ranks about 3rd or 4th in the nation talent-wise easier or harder than playing 8 of 12 games in-conference in a conference that is a clear #1 year in and year out. It's a closer call than you might think. USC only has one truly joke of a game this year (Idaho), while LSU faces Tulane, La Tech and Middle Tennessee St. You can counter by saying the talent level of the 8 SEC teams makes up for the non-conf. games, but it's a pretty subjective argument. What helps---or should have helped Auburn in 2004---is the conference title game. If an SEC team, a Big-12 team, and a PAC-10 team with an equal number of losses are in the top 3 going into conference title game weekend, and the SEC team and Big-12 team take care of business while the PAC-10 team sits at home, then the PAC-10 team should find itself ranked #3 the following Monday. Aubie found out it doesn't really work that way, but it should. Conference title games *should* be the difference-maker against Big 10 and PAC-10 teams, year in and year out.
The Pac-10 teams are not very consistent, but they do have pretty sophisticated passing attacks and a great deal of speed. I'm sure y'all remember us having our hands full with Oregon St. and Arizona St. I would rank it: #1 SEC, #2 Pac-10, #3 ACC, #4 Big 10, #5 Big 12.
