Yeah you're right- back then, no one really knew Brett Favre was gonna be a hall of famer, so ol' curley did fool some people.... Maybe the okie fans can let us know if Miles was riding a hall of famers back.
I don't even know if I should respond to this post. All I know is in 2003 we scored 36 points a game, in 2002 we scored 34 points a game, and this year we scored 32 points a game. In 2002, we were second in the Big 12 conference in passing. In 2003 we averaged around 200 yards passing and running. In 2004 we were 2nd in the Big 12 in rushing. He ran the system he needed. LSU will be balanced when he is their with all the talent you all have.
They said that about Bob Stoops and Florida. Not necessarily true. I suppose the thought that a new coach, like Les Miles, or Nick Saban, could actually like moving to Baton Rouge and coaching a school with such tradition and heritage might not make him want to stay. In Saban's case, it is about "new challenges." Les Miles is a good coach. Hiring a good coach is very hard. Timing, canidates available, working with agents, how a canadate recruits, and numerous other factors go into a decision. Why are we not flatterd that the NFL kept wanting to hire Saban? Or that if we hire Les Miles, that another great program like Michigan, or another NFL culb would want to hire the new guy? For some of you, I ask this question.., Is anyone available good enough for your beloved tigers? I wonder if Jesus Christ himself could be hired to coach, if your would not raise a stink at him? "he's never coached before!!!" Some of you are far to emotionally invested in something you have no control over. Or, your ego's are so large that you can't see the situation for what it is. Timing is everything. It was timing that brought us Cholly Mac as an assistant.. Saban 5 years ago, and the guy that is the next head coach. If you don't like the hire, than renounce your beloved school and find another. If you aren't willing to do that, then hurry up and get the BULLS*** out of your sestem and let's "Move On" (as Saban would say.)
While it is possible we traded for a Mich watch, Carr will push hard for one of his current coordinators to get the job when he retires (which is probably a few years away). It will depend on whether Mich listens to him or not. All in all I am not unhappy with the hire. Take away the 4-7 record his first year and look at what he did this year after losing 2 QB's and he did ok at a second tier program in OK. I don't see anyone else available that I would be more happy with. I would prefer a defensive coach, but I think I like Crennel better than JDR and he hasn't even been mentioned as a possibility.
I get the distinct impression that this entire coach "search" took place in about seven days time, NOT the lengthy amount of time that Skip would have us believe. I think that Skip's assertion that "LSU fans would be pleasantly surprised if they knew how much work has been done already" was "sales puffery." We made a panic hire.
If Miles is the guy, I'll be nervous about it to a degree but I like most of the stuff (especially from the OSU fans) I've read about him here. The 28-21 record is immaterial when you look at the overall picture. Competing on an uphill battle with OU & Texas, modifying the offense to fit the personnel, playing well against the big dogs, etc, all sound good on the surface. What made me an even bigger fan of Saban was his character and relationship with the players. If Miles has this attribute, I'm definitely fine with him. I'd appreciate any OSU fan going into more detail on Miles in this area. Is he more of a players coach or a strict disciplinarian? I thought Saban was skilled at handling both. If it's true, I don't know what to think of the RP thing. Guess I'll wait on the facts before commenting. Could be a good thing or an unnecessary soap opera. While I think some of you are going over the edge with the criticism of Miles, I'd probably be doing the same thing if they hired a coach that I didn't like. If Houston Nutt, Tuberville, or Dennis Erickson was hired I'd be pretty pissed. I'd still be an LSU fan but it just wouldn't seem right with them. With Miles, everything sounds fine so far.
OK website name should be changed. You're right MarineTiger.......I should change the site name from firemiles.com to fireskip.com if this hire is true. This whole thing smells of political crap....Weems and his boys finally got control again away from Emeritt and got to hire another lacky they could push around and control unlike Nick. Miles is the only one (along with Petrino) that wanted the job after seeing they would have to kiss Weems' ass for the next 5 years and Weems and the BOS made sure they had a coach they could control. Tha's all this is.........they were tired of Nick anyway cause he'd boot their asses out of his office and would play their little games. If you think Miles will be hired because he was the best choice or the only one interested, then you need you wake up and smell what you're shoveling. Look at the 3 coaches that came before Saban....all coaches hired by Joe Dean and the BOS....3 coaches who could be under the thumb of these old goobs just like Bowden was at Auburn. They didn't want another Nick......he had to too much power and not enough time to schmooze with them......you guys are funny. You think this is about the BEST football coach who was interested. No, this was about the best football coach who was willing to come in here and be controlled by the BOS.
