What's not to love about the way this guy talks?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgjIuaR-keE I for one think :milesmic: 's great!!:geauxtige
What also impressed me was the fact that he DID NOT ask for more $$$.. He is no mercenary, and shows that he did want to be the coach at LSU. As alluded to earlier in this post as well as in the past post by RHANS405, he gave up his shot at his lifetime dream job for the sake of the LSU team. In this world where so much weight is put on outside appearance, it is easy to understand that he doesn't always get the respect he deserves. I think it is Miles' inner qualities that make him special, and so likeable as a person by a lot of people as well as his players.:milesmic: I was just thinking about that PC before the SECCG before I even clicked on the youtube link! :thumb:
When LSU was making its move, Michigan's AD was conviently missing and so never made his own move. Lloyd Carr still has a lot of power in that program, and it is clear that he did not want Miles to get the job.
I hope this finally puts the Michigan talk to bed, though I'm a little surprised that Michigan was able to get RR from WVU!
LSU's football team has a $32 million surplus - I don't think it'll be a huge problem to find a few extra $$$ to get a great DC. Also, my understanding is that the contract extension that Miles recently signed did not substantially increase his salary beyond what it was in his existing contract.
Most of that goes to pay for the other sports that don't make money. I think our net is pretty small, something like a mil or two. We'll raise tix prices again.
I quoted this in another thread. "At LSU, a football team that finished 11-2 and ranked No. 3 in 2006 accounted for 63% of the school's athletics revenue for the year. It also accounted for a lion's share of the spending — more than $16 million — but turned an almost $32 million profit that helped underwrite the school's non-moneymaking sports."
