I am also wary of this early anointing of Harris. I've been watching LSU football for many years and I've never yet seen a true freshman quarterback that was ready to take the field in the SEC. Not Tommy Hodson, not Herb Tyler, not Risher or Wickersham or Mauck or Flynn. Not even Bert Jones and certainly not Jefferson and Lee. It takes at least a year to learn the playbook and the SEC defenses and to learn the players and earn their trust. As redshirts, several of the quarterbacks went on to greatness and Harris may too. But I don't expect to see him starting anytime soon.
Booty was an ALL-SEC quarterback and Davey had only had a couple of good games in relief. It was the next season that Davey blossomed after Booty left early for the NFL. Randall was experienced and had an arm (Bluegrass Miracle?) but the main thing was that Russell still didn't understand the playbook. He came out of a high school where the only plays were homey go long and Jamarcus scramble out. it took him three years to be ready for the SEC. None of these four players were ready as freshmen.
I haven't seen anyone "anointing" Harris. If we had an established QB you would hear less Harris talk.
Well, in Harris's defense, we haven't had this good of a QB coach in quite some time. Jimbo was the last.
No obviously not, because Miles nor Studrawa seemed to be able to put a passing game together. Cam definitely did a great job with making adjustments to maximize what Mett did given the amount of time he was on staff and the tools he had at his disposal.
Just one correction: Randal didn't have a very good arm. It took all he had to heave the ball 45 yards in Kentucky. It in no way played any role in him keeping JR at bay. It was all about leadership.
