Let's Break This Game Down..........

If our defense plays with the same intensity and execution, I like our chances against the Gators. Another "normal" week of preparation and playing 'em in Death Valley won't hurt either.

We've got to reduce/eliminate the turnovers, penalties & dropped balls. They're drive killers we can't afford during the upcoming stretch of tough games.

Continued good play and execution from the special teams. Hopefully Chris will recover from his misses at Vandy.

The coaching staff "appears" to be coming together. We need solid game plans in all three phases against the Gators. I like our position after four games considering what we've been through. The next two weeks are going to make or break our season IMO.

    observations:

sean mcdonough sucks. long after the sack for a safety and right after wroten being tackled by 2 o-linemen yet still making a sack early 2nd qtr, this dude says although cutler hasnt been sacked all night LSU has applied pressure. we had 3.5 to that point.

late 2nd qtr, vandi fans booing wanting not to run out the clock and attempt a drive. seanie says bobby johnson more than happy to take this score into halftime. then johnson immediately calls a to and has a drive going before the int by laron. stroke survivor gottfried is painfully slow but at least knows what hes talking about.

JR looked good. what ive learned is midrange passes are considered short passes for others due to his arm. 30 yard hitch to bowe was dead-on. 4 of his first 5 were to bowe i think and his accuracy is exceptional even on the few times vandi added pressure. i think the sack where he fumbled was a missed assigment by planchard. he had no shot.

the 2 pt conversion while on the run where he found early as his 2nd or 3rd read was good. he always looks good rolling out. i dont think we threw one screen all night. the pass to hester was as close as I saw but that was almost a waggle. great touch and a tough throw by jr. the pick thrown was off a deflected pass that wasnt shown clearly til late in the game. pass was behind david jones but wasnt terrible. jones had maybe the worst night of any TE ive ever seen. about 5 touches and always something negative or a penalty. same with zinger a huge miss and a huge penalty. didnt he miss a td last game or so?

dropped passes and untimely penalties by our TEs may be a sign we need to use them more than once a decade in our offense.

the couple times cutler ran the sprint option similar to UF it was effective. lots of space at the corner which Leak could exploit. beyond that the defense was stellar. Caddi above ^^ is reaching on his assessment. its his view as an opposing fan trying to see what holes to expose for auburn to be able to win. bad assessment.

Wroten is more dominant than KW was last year. much quicker out the blocks and a terror. when hes doubleteamed and chevis jackson is sent blitzing on the same side there's no hope to block cj. CW draws too much attention even with the rb added for protection. KW had his worst game in memory.

prude had an excellent game and as stroke survivor noted is improving each game. pelini choosing to play aggressively the entire game was good to see. they blitzed more than maybe one game i remember under saban. that was the UGA game 2 years ago where they blitzed nonstop. pelini chose to blitz and not just showing blitz which nickie often did then dropped out of it. he sent the house even with 4 minutes in the game. Jessie Daniels seems to be his favorite. JD up the gut reminded me of little nickie days of yore. it made me all warm and fuzzy inside. it was hugely effective and not just due to matchups. often times pelini sent a guy where vandi was not properly assigned to pick it up and the db went untouched. definitely good to see.

skyler had 4 passes thrown to him. 2 each half. shyrone didnt play. good to keep our little guys rested and not draw the attention before our bigger game against UF this week. why skyler was in to return a punt with 2 minutes I did not like. ben wilkerson or MM comes to mind.

my pet peeve is punting from inside the 35 yd line. i cussed when we punted from the 33 then they get the safety after a great punt. I guess i was wrong. great decision. shows what i know.

chevis jackson seemed to be in position most every play and had a great game even without the pick for a td. edit: which led to a td.

although it was vandi, they were avg almost 260 yds passing a game and totally disrupted cutler. he was offbalance the entire game much like we figured woulda happened to clausen with the same approach. cutler is a much better athlete and we made him look bad. maybe the worst ive ever seen him. nothing like pressure to disrupt a comfort zone of a qb.

i saw one or two people dogging russell again? i suggest you rewatch the game again for the first time. obviously you're not actually watching the games or have an axe to grind or simply have white-itis. thats the disease my relatives have when they cant give a black qb credit when theres a whiteboy on the bench.

the penalties and turnovers are the only thing that kept this from being a 60 pt rout but our penalties are no flukes. this has to be reduced significantly against better opposition.

let's hope this is a sign of things to come and our staff and players can handle the pressure cooker against equal competition in upcoming games. i think this was a good confidence builder we needed and can build from here for both our players and our coaches.

I think in time, Pelini will be one of the greatest defensive coaches in the country. Yes, he was introduced to PAC10 pass happy scheme and SEC ball (where you dont sit on a lead and play conservative prevent)

I think things just went a little fast for the team. That north texas game wouldve helped out a LOT. Just so he could figure out which kinda of scheme he needs to run.

These things just take time. his scheme is starting to look more and more like sabans, but kind of like a hybrid?

slow down dude. lol i would be happy is he was just a very good d-coord with the some of the best talent. was great improvement regardless the competition since the aggressiveness the players relish was back. 2 blown assigments on their TE's wasnt great but with the number of blitzes you give that up sometimes.

hybrid of sabans? maybe if we employ more bump and run. beyond that i dont know enough to know the subtle differences.

This post about JV was right on, but your first really didn't make much sense...

Of course JV runs better against lesser opponents, what running back doesn't?

But I agree with your second post on it. Give him quality blocking by the O-line AND wide receivers and then JV would be dominant..

LSU has everything it needs to compete for the SEC title. We have good coaches, a favorable schedule, excellent talent, and depth. The offense, defense, and special teams are all very good. Three very major, yet fixable problems are standing in LSU's way:

    1. Foolish penalties. 14 penalties for 133 yards. A touchdown called back. LSU is one of the most penalized teams in the country.

    2. Turnovers. Fumbles hurt us badly. We are going to take some interceptions if we throw the ball, but LSU must hold onto the football.

    3. Dropped passes. In three decades of watching Tiger football, I can't remember so many passes being dropped by receivers. Sometimes wide-open receivers looking at the goal line.

These are problems a team can fix if it gets focused and intense.

Pellini may turn out to be a solid DC and I wonder how long he will stay. Some relatives of mine and some of their friends truly believe that the only reason Russell is playing is political - because he is black. Their ignorance infuriates me.

Sorry, but I have to laugh at you for this thread.

I knew better than to click on it because of who it was started by - you.

However I figured I would give it a look.... Maybe you had made a thoughtful post breaking down the game.

If that is your idea of breaking down a game...... :hihi:
