During WWII, Navy engineers theorized that a cat could guide a bomb to a ship. They invented a harness for the cat that attached to the bomb's fins, the theory being, since cats hate water, when the bomb was dropped the cat would see a ship and by trying to steer itself there, would guide the bomb to the ship. It was actually tested at least once, but since the G forces rendered the cat unconscious, it was declared a failure.
